After working extensively on AyeAI for the last 12 months, I’ve decided wrap the project up. Early success signs unfortunately weren't there, and we've decided to fail fast before taking any outside funds. This was a hard thing to build --- and a hard decision to make. While we made decent tech progress, classic signs of PMF that I've seen over and over again with multiple products just weren't there.
It's still so early in this space.
Despite this, the experience has been incredibly valuable, offering deep insights into the complexities of building and scaling AI-driven solutions for enterprise applications.
Building a platform that automatically selects the best AI models for each task—based on capability, latency, and cost—was a technically sound approach, and this remains a critical need in the industry. Our original thesis—providing businesses with a single stack of secure AI tools seamlessly integrated with their data—remains correct. Recent trends in enterprise AI, such as the increased focus on security, transparency, and compliance, have also validated our work. RAG proved to be another key trend. Our work in integrating SaaS platforms, local documents, and structured data through RAG remains especially relevant.
AyeAI didn’t achieve the scale we envisioned - I don't see it as a failure of the original vision. The technical foundations we built remain highly relevant, and many of the challenges we encountered were reflective of the enterprise market's slow but growing adoption of multi-model AI systems.
I appreciate all the investors that reached out, committed funds, or expressed sincere help in executing this vision. Thank you to the engineers that attempted this experiment with me. Ultimately, I didn't feel comfortable taking outside funds until I was confident we'd get to PMF -- and we didn't see enough positive signs.
It's a humbling journey to try to build something that doesn't work -- but moving forward, I’m excited to apply these insights to new opportunities, focusing on finding the right product for this very special time in technology.
In the meantime, if I can help you grow your company or build a product with you, reach out. This is an such an exciting time --- and there's lot of fun to be had in building something lasting and amazing.

After five and half years, my operational time with SignalWire has come to an end. I'm proud of building a ~100 person startup from scratch that raised over $42M in VC from Silicon Valley, closed investors like Jerry Yang (Yahoo founder), Eric Yuan (Zoom founder), Dean Drako (Barracuda founder), Ron Neuenberger (AngelFire founder), communications giants - Samsung, Deutsche Telekom, T-mobile, and Sand Hill Road's Storm Ventures and Sequoia (seed).
Over the 5 years, we built a business that grew 70% y/y since inception, has a healthy double digit ARR, introduced a strong (perhaps the coolest) brand to the CPaaS market with the "Cut your Billio" campaign that lured Twilio customers away with our syntax compatible API (LaML) and brought a Knight Rider themed sat truck to guerrilla market against the billionaire competitors.
SignalWire continues with a mix of old and new at the helm, and I wish the team and my friends still there the best as they continue the mission to build an infinitely scalable software defined communications platform for the ages.
Over the coming weeks I'll be evaluating my next steps -- you can be assured you'll see me again very soon. If you're ready to start something new, get in touch. Now might be the time to work together.
