@AngrygirLcomics The way they lean into arguing abt accessibility to make art like pencils, scraps of paper, time, and effort don't exist. Demanding free access to and use of works made by someone's skill and labor is some dark, exploitative sh*t.

@mintycel @toastasaurus Yes and, I feel like many GNs categorized as middle-grade or YA *are* appealing to adults, but many adults aren't practiced in considering them. To name many: Squire, Frizzy, Flamer, Hungry Ghost, Nayra & the Djinn, This One Summer, the New Kid series, American Born Chinese...

@toastasaurus As a comic book librarian, I do see plenty of sophistication in children's GN though. Sure the variety definitely is lacking, and I do wish we had more narratives that appealed to adults. But so many kid's GN have kicked me in the gut so hard. Artists do try and succeed

Also, BTS, it feels like :01 and D&Q are pubs more likely to inc book promo in budgets so that creators aren't completely paying out of pocket to tour their recent works.

@explodingarrow Yup. Periodical journalism does not cleanly correlate with texts about comics. So much of the remit/focus of texts abt comics considers them in larger sociohistorical/sociopolitical contexts. Ya, journalism may inc. such to frame, but it largely reports on comics in real time.

@hellobarkada There's a lot of people out there doing good work who deserve to have their work recognized!

Glad to hear Memoir isn't dropped (there are just so many good ones that it really deserved its own category separate from Reality Based), but feeling a sorta way about the Journalism award being dropped/combined with Book. Feels like a major loss.
