Gorgeous little St. Mary’s Church, Barton Bendish, Norfolk. One of my favourites 💕 Thatch, lime render, ogee headed doorway and atmosphere in abundance 🥰

‘St Mary’s is clean and simple, but totally unexpected’. These were the remarks of organist Ben Maton after his recent visit to St Mary's, Temple, Corsley, Wiltshire. 1/8

Both of these headstones were lifted & moved many years ago & now lean against the same churchyard wall. The carved face of one looks at the wall, whilst the other looks outwards. As a result these faces have very different exposure to sun & rain, with very different consequences

Years of work transforming ancient woodland, ruined by permissive public access, has resulted in this It is now fashionable to promote Right to Roam, as though allowing ANYBODY a chance to ruin it again is a good thing

Ruins overgrown with greenery and a quiet field beyond. Wonderful spot for a stroll today. Yet this is where the Lancastrians captured and murdered Richard, Duke of York and his son, the Earl of Rutland. Sandal Castle near Wakefield. Crumbled, but still there.
