St. Catherine of Sienna had a complex relationship with Gender, and it is very fascinating. There are times where Christ Himself leads her into this complexity. This thread will explore parts of her original biography written by her confessor, at least what I have read so far.

Saint Joan of Arc is definitely an inspiration to me, I really like and relate to the idea of being just a frankly badass woman who does it all for God and doesn’t care if everyone thinks she is crazy

Not true "Any sex-change intervention, as a rule, risks threatening the unique dignity the person has received from the moment of conception. "The human body shares in the dignity of the image of God. It is a gift... We are called to receive it and respect it in its natural meaning." "We are not God. We are creatures... any attempt to make oneself God, to determine oneself apart from the truth of one's created nature, is contrary to human dignity So any attempt to say I have a penis but I'm a girl is playing God and condemned

@ChudNarodnik @iam_shwa I would add onto this point and go even further and say that the Church has unironically never addressed the ethicality of transitioning solely from an ethical standpoint of treating dysphoria, but has addressed an ideology fully separate from being trans.

Exceptions exist. I used to work with a trans man who was just such a man it was easy. Knew sports, was brutal at trash talk, super hard worker. That was the first time I ever realized that I may not actually know everything I thought about gender But most are still sweetie pies lol and it’s hard to hide that

@HeloiseDePierre @DazzlingMellie Not at all. The number one thing I think with trans men is feeling sad for them. Because they’re gorls, idc how much facial hair they have 🤷‍♂️ And I think they’d prefer that. No hormones can make you ready for an all male roast session or competitive masculinity

I think Christ sides with marginalized people not out of some “pity mongering” reason (à la nietsche), but because God knows that such people are ultimately humble and try to be good in spite of being misunderstood by All. Blest is the One who endureth trials... (Jms 1:12)

@HeloiseDePierre Suppose I accepted this premise. Then it would only follow that the “cure” would lie in the mind of the individual. But again, you advocate that this is a real change in sex and that others should accept this? How does this argument favor you?

@HeloiseDePierre Although I suppose I should say I deny it falls under double effect, which I will later demonstrate

I see my fellow trans women as in a big sisterhood, esp. trans Christians, bc I can pretty much know we have all been through / are going through the same bs

@keegan_122 I think sterilization is bad, but it is undeniably the lesser of two evils for trans people with clinically recognizable levels of psychological distress. Even the first canon of Nicea says that sterilization can be justified in certain cases.

@HeloiseDePierre It doesn’t need to address it from a point of psychological distress when it condemns it. It condemned it as intrinsically wrong. Additionally, arguing for it as the lesser of two evils doesn’t make sense here since you’ve previously argued it wasn’t an intrinsic wrong anyway
