#batteries twitter, we really need to come up with a collective noun for EREVs and PHEVs together. "Plug-ins" doesn't work, nor does "hybrids". You can't call them both "plug-in hybrids" for obvious reasons. "Binary drivetrains"? "Dual-system"? "Goldilocks cars"?

@robertbaylis But VW already have plants which are 100% dedicated to NEVs. The scale is there, but they still aren't cheap (e.g. the ID.3). I'm scratching my head as to why?

@heppel_george Compact (A/B) ICE cars are on the market for around €15-20K in Europe (€12.5-16K if you strip 20% VAT) yet similar-sized LiB-EVs avg. €34-40K. Long range aside, there is no cost reason for this delta today (China is showing as such), it’s just taking time to scale this segment

The best (and perhaps only) way to achieve a mass-market €20k EV in Europe is to sign an LTSA for Na-ion cells from Asia, ship them over in bulk and assemble the car in Europe. cleantechnica.com/2024/05/29/fro…

@OliverNugent After 20 years, are the days of using China as a bottomless pit of base and ferrous metal demand finally over?

@ShanuMathew93 How much did you drink? I've become a much lighter drinker in recent years and even a couple of pints is enough to muck up my sleeping now.

Did a sober month for no reason other than to reorient my relationship with booze every so often. First night back and while enjoyable and worthwhile… reminder alcohol just destroys your sleep routine. Time to bed, wake ups, length, quality. Smh lol

@ShanuMathew93 Honestly, my best guess is people are a little shaky about the Chinese construction sector right now and that is what's weighing on #copper.

The electrical stocks typically trade alongside how Copper trades (high usage of copper in electrical equipment) but recently lot of relative strength in the stocks but not as much in the underlying commodity. Anyone have a good explanation for this?

@ashugarg @Noahpinion I don't think a quote from a politician of a now-defunct political party from 200 years ago is necessarily a good summary of British attitudes towards India.

@Noahpinion Many (not all) Britishers have a condescending attitude towards India. That attitude is best summarized by Lord Macaulay who said “a single shelf of a good European Library is worth the whole native literature of India and Arabia” 😡

@JumanaSaleheen Hi Jumana, I've increasingly seen economists quoting US jobs numbers either including or excluding "services" (mostly hospitality and education). What's your opinion on this?

It’s jobs day! US NFP comes in stronger than expected (again). 216K new jobs in Dec vis-a-vis expected 175K. Unemployment rate unchanged at 3.7%. When will the US labour market slow? Overall I’d say this is not good news for the Fed will cut rates in Q1 camp. #NFP
