So, next time you consider components of religion as separate from major aspects of human nature, think also of the broad picture! I hope you enjoyed this thread. Follow me for more research updates throughout the year!

..And recently for art performances. Like religious rituals, experiencing art together reduced people's self-boundaries, sometimes to the point of feeling merged with the other. 🤝 This increased self-other overlap was associated w/ increased bonding.🫂 doi.org/10.31234/osf.i…

For yesterday's #WorldReligionDay, consider our research showing what religion can tell us about human nature. Religious rituals may seem like either stifled Sunday mornings or exotic events in lands far away, but neither capture the reality of these events 🧵

@ForeverScept Exactly. Cut the waste, cut the bureaucracy, stop punishing success – let people build, earn, invest. The state isn’t your friend; it’s a giant overhead.

But the top 1% of UK taxpayers now pay 33% of all income tax

Everyone screaming tax the rich, but let that sink in

That’s just 500,000 people contributing £93.8 BILLION in the 2024 tax year A £150k earner pays £53,460 in tax A £25k earner pays £2,486 It takes 21 people on £25k to contribute what one person on £150k does So when Labour talk about ‘making the rich pay their fair share’, they already are Keep hammering high earners, entrepreneurs & business owners, & they’ll KEEP leaving Dubai, Monaco, Portugal are all rolling out the red carpet And the budget looks like it will only get worse

The UK doesn’t need higher taxes, it needs spending wastage cut, better incentives to build & invest & a full cultural shift AWAY from the politics of envy

For when the argument comes up again that the humanities and female or "diverse" university staff "brainwash" students into becoming 'woke' and leftwing, I present for your attention: Albert Einstein's essay "Why socialism" (1949): monthlyreview.org/articles/why-s…

Every winter, the NHS literally CHOOSES this situation. It’s a choice. There are many simple measures they could implement to reduce all infectious disease, eg respirators, air filters, ventilation, testing, separate waiting rooms, etc. But they won’t do it. It’s a choice.

The UK needs to ditch FPTP as soon as possible. It's bonkers that a party can get a supermajority on the back of 30% of the popular vote. A result based on proportional representation would more accurately reflect the views of the country.

It can’t make any sense to tax electric car drivers for not burning fossil fuels while allowing people that fly to pay no tax for burning fossil fuels. The answer is simple, extend the charging per mile to the airline industry. Fair, climate effective and tax raising - all at the same time. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@KMc_head @anon_opin How was that shown in the Netherlands? A leading far right party brought the government down on purpose, because he tried to use it to force his horrible immigration policy through. If anything, this shows us another advantage of having a proportionally representing gov'ment.

@anon_opin Clearly written by the supporter of a party that is likely to be the hinge party in a coalition, where that small party can wield immense power out of proportion to its number of seats cos it can threaten to bring the government down at any time. Like in The Netherlands...

@anon_opin It would indeed more accurately reflect the wide diversity of opinion in the UK. But, with no one in overall control, minor parties would hold the rest to ransom to drive through their agendas in exchange for the balance of power, not necessarily to the benefit of the country
