Correct position. Serious question: why is so much of the right deranged on this stuff? See so few sensible takes like this. It feels similar to the Israel stuff and negative polarisation. You support X so I must hugely overcompensate and become a fanatic for Y!
JamesFennell MBE@FennellJW

Its NOT either/or. We should move to renewables and nuclear, but as long as gas remains part of the mix we should use our own resources, they are less carbon intensive to extract and transport and cheaper. We have enough for the transitional period.

@JGreenriver @AcademicAgent_X Go back to your Boomer anti-communist slop. I don't care about 'muh free market'. Completely misplaced priority, nothing of value was 'conserved' by allying with the free-market cultists.

@herimarksoc @AcademicAgent_X Bro, defending totalitarian states like the USSR or PRC or the GAE for that matter is not my avenue, I find all of it extremely inhumane and frankly sickening, it's just not how mankind is meant to live.

One reality “the right” must face up to now is that the war and attacks on oil infrastructure have massively strengthened the hand of Ed Miliband and the Green argument more generally. Just how it is.

“Wind and solar isn’t always that reliable!” Sure. Build a few more nuclear power stations too.

Britain is presently generating 71% of electricity from renewables and is exporting some to boot. Nuclear plus renewables is presently 85% of all electricity being generated. Good things are possible. Ignore the boomer Murdoch press.

I don’t “deny climate change”, I just think the mathematical modelling is dubious and the science of renewables just isn’t there. One can’t override facts with ideology. (Zionist) Marxist James Heartfield has a very good book on this topic called Green Capitalism.
Heritage Market Socialist@herimarksoc

@AcademicAgent_X Why do you, and much of the 'non-Zionist Right', remain climate change deniers? Surely you're suspicious of those who push the 'anti-net zero' line, given the fossil fuel lobby funding?

@herimarksoc @AcademicAgent_X In any case, this is an issue of terminology, the Austrians clearly outline that they are doing this and they explain why they don't include the political economy when it comes to economic laws. You seem to be angry that they are.. more morally pure than modern economics.

@JGreenriver @AcademicAgent_X The results: Turning Russia and China from backwaters into superpowers. Yes, it fell short of the Marxist dream, but it is inaccurate to judge the Soviet Union and the PRC (except the GLF and Cultural Revolution) as complete failures.

@herimarksoc @AcademicAgent_X It's not some kind of gotcha to say "LOL OMG The Austrians doesn't include the political economy". Plenty of people have ignored or believed that they could will themselves through material conditions to use marxist terminology and the results have been accordingly.

@herimarksoc @AcademicAgent_X Well you too is doing the same, you're just coming from the other angle where it's accepted and you feel vindicated that this is a good thing because it's orthodox praxis right? You understand this right?

@herimarksoc @AcademicAgent_X Well I think it's bogus to have a state that gives away favors in the way that the state has been doing for soon centuries whether it's for the filthy rich pigs or the unions, the NHS etc. The idea that this should be accepted as a part of economic thought is a travesty.

@herimarksoc @AcademicAgent_X Okay but in Austrian economics, there is really only one type of economy, it only deals with the allocation of scarce goods within a free market and they would say that there is no such thing as an economy if it's favors being given to voters as it distorts incentives.

@herimarksoc @AcademicAgent_X That's not a real economic law but fair, it's treated as such occasionally. You can disagree with this theory or you can leave it alone, it doesn't change that the Austrian economics laws are correct.

Yep. The right’s obsession with renewable energy as ‘woke’ is only going to look more stupid with time. Electrification is perfectly sensible from perspective of energy security. Cars, train, buses.
JamesFennell MBE@FennellJW

80% of buses are electric in China. This has nothing to do with Net Zero, its all about energy security. We need to be a lot less ideological about the energy mix - if we make it lets use it, wind. nuclear, oil, gas or solar.

@JGreenriver @AcademicAgent_X Like Marxism, its always 'but it wasn't REAL {my ideology} '. Honest Austrian Economists would say the devastation of the Depression was a needed market correction, despite the human cost. I say affordable housing and job security is more valuable than foreign-made slop.

@JGreenriver @AcademicAgent_X No. Again, this shows the folly of thinking political ideology is like hard science. The Great Depression and the post-war boom under Keynesian Social Democracy should have utterly disproved free-market economics. What do they do? Deny and focus on data THEY think is important.

@JGreenriver @AcademicAgent_X Economics cannot be both a study of subjective preference, and a hard fact for which one can be 'ignorant' for having different preferences as to how society (and the economy) should be organised. Principle of Non-Contradiction.

@JGreenriver @AcademicAgent_X Methodological Individualism is THEIR normative preference, i.e., their opinion. But most of the time (Hayek is the least bad here, Rothbard by far the worst, an utter imbecile I can't believe anybody takes seriously) they say their opinion is true because 'economics'.
