Renewables are now 53% cheaper than nuclear for total system cost - not just generation cost. That includes all the costs of ‘firming’ renewables and ensuring a stable power supply. Offshore wind and solar achieves significantly lower generation costs in a coupled energy system than nuclear. And the stunning growth of battery storage puts it at centre of global energy security. At a time when so much looks grim, the renewable evolution holds out real hope. In 2025, more power was generated worldwide from renewable energy than from coal, and 91% of new renewables are now cheaper than fossil fuels. Renewables made up 85.6% of last year’s new global power capacity additions. Each year nuclear adds only as much net global power capacity as renewables add every two days.

For nearly a decade, the people all along the Cape Fear River region have battled to hold Chemours and other polluters accountable for toxic PFAS chemicals they've dumped into the water supply. And yet the leaders of the North Carolina state legislature have completely failed to do anything meaningful about the issue. The Wilmington region itself has two very senior Republican leaders with significant influence in Raleigh: 👉 State Senator @MichaelLee4NC, the current Senate Majority Leader, and a contender to be the next Senate President Pro-Tem successor to Phil Berger 👉 State Rep. @RepTedDavisJr, an 8-term incumbent Yet despite this representation, neither Lee nor Davis has proposed nor supported any hard, enforceable limits to toxic PFAS discharges into the Cape Fear River whatsoever. Instead, the best they can offer is a purely voluntary system of self-regulation that polluters like Chemours can choose to follow or not. Protecting polluters like Chemours from any sort of regulation is exactly why corporate interests in Raleigh pour money into protecting Lee and Davis come election season. Because, for them, it's an investment in protecting their bottom line.
