Less than 1 in 5 survivors report sexual violence to the police. Not because it didn’t happen but because of fear, shame, not being believed, or the reality of systems that don’t always protect survivors.

Language matters. It shapes who feels seen, who feels safe and who feels like they belong, and for us Black femmes is about inclusion, protection and community, making sure the spaces we create hold everyone they are meant to. #blackfemme #blackspaces #blackwomen #safespace

We’re speaking to Black women, Black girls, Black trans women, and Black non-binary people who identify with and feel safe in feminine spaces. It’s about recognising the shared experiences many face, while also making sure no one is excluded from care, safety and support.

You’ve probably seen us use the word ‘femme’ a lot, and this is the reason why. When we say Black femmes, we are intentionally creating space.

Edna was a Master’s student at York St John University. She was reported missing on 1 Feb 2026 after going for a walk. Her body was discovered on 8 March after she had been missing for 35 days. Many people only learned about her disappearance after she was found.

Love shouldn’t make you feel small, watched or afraid to be yourself. Real love leaves room for safety, trust and freedom not fear. #whatslovegottodowithit

Someone wanting all your time might sound like devotion but not everything that looks like love IS love. Sometimes it’s control. Sometimes it’s insecurity. Sometimes it’s power dressed up in the language of care.

Sometimes the things we’re taught to read as love aren’t actually love. Someone being jealous of everyone around you might get framed as “they just care a lot.” Someone checking your phone might be brushed off as “they’re just protective.

Her work reminds us that when Black femmes are centred, supported and protected, entire communities benefit. Today we honour her vision, her courage and the work she continues to lead with care and purpose. #ChristabelYeboah #HERSANA #BlackWomenWhoLead

We’re inviting: • Black Femmes (18+, UK-based, not cis-men) to complete the survey • Allies and organisations to share the survey with in their networks To change the narrative, we have to hear it first.
