Council's traffic experts advised - narrowing the bike lanes to 1.5M ..."The risk of cyclists being doored or destabilising may increase. " Day one of the degraded bike lanes...dooring is clearly now an obvious hazard to cyclists. The DTP did not support the degrading of the bike lanes along a strategic cycling corridor. @theage @bicycle_network

Amazing post from @yarrabike and others highlighting the awful decision from the backwards Yarra Council to dig up the bike lanes along a strategic cycling corridor in Elizabeth S.

What appears to come out of the Mayor's comments is that drug consumption and dealing is cool in affluent and elite Fitzroy, but in Nth Richmond, the vulnerable and homeless are to be denied a safe and caring place for their drug consumption. It smacks of double standards and elite hypocrisy.

Protect Fitzroy North - No to NIMBYs, Yes to Homes
Interesting that Mayor Jolly continues to retain strong support among the fringe group of Richmond residents wanting to cleanse the area of drugs addicts, despite his jaw dropping admissions about routine use of illicit drugs and sexual kink for deceased wildlife. 💊 💊 💊

The city of Yarra’s outspoken mayor has gone off script, appearing to confess to a history of drug use and dirty talk in a bizarre interview. Stephen Jolly made the jaw-dropping revelations after appearing in court on an unrelated assault charge. @jacstanley7

Herald Sun on this backward Council’s decision to dig up bike lanes along a strategic cycling corridor for some occasional car parking. Simply nuts for an inner city municipality. news.com.au/technology/mot…

As traffic roars past in the background...the images today of the Jolly Council ripping up the protected bike lanes along a strategic bike corridor were simply terrible and will be imprinted in memories. Those who came down this morning to protest should be very proud and there is certainly strong support going by the outrage that has been expressed all day. @bicycle_network

Over 50 locals turned up on short notice to demand the Road Safety Minister step in to sort out the mess in Elizabeth St. The Elizabeth St bike lanes form part of the designated cycling corridor as part of the States road network. You can’t have a situation where the local Mayor is seeking to degrade the infrastructure to satisfy local politics. Alison McCormack from @bicycle_network , who spoke to the community, is calling on the State Gov to ensure that the bike lanes ( along a SCC) comply with a the safe standard and cannot be degraded. The DTP do not support he degrading of Elizabeth St. Action continues tomorrow 8:00am. Join us for half an hour. " The traffic management plan - where is it?" @abcmelbourne

Out there this morning campaigning to protect and enhance Richmond’s best bike lanes from being dug up by this backward Jolly Council. The decision was not lawful and not made in good faith and asking the minister to intervene.

The Buddhist Temple demolished. Cyclists ripped off. Meanwhile back in Elizabeth St, the Buddhist temple that was allegedly the main complainant against the bike lanes along the designated strategic bike corridor, is gone! They are rebuilding it. But this raises the question why parking ( that was stated to be so critical) was not provided on the site? Good Question. Answer borrowing amenity from a public space that has been designated to safe bike access. This would have been known last April when Mayor Jolly was denigrating cyclist objections as "white privilege" (news.com.au/.../0b663191c5…) Cyclists should feel ripped off. Councillors knew or ought to have known of the development plans in train and could have found a suitable compromise. The Minster should take a dim view on the decision making and now intervene. The Road Management Act provides that "priority is to given to bicycles on a specified bicycle road" S20(1B) (c) @bicycle_network

I have been very clear and consistent in my reports on Iran’s nuclear programme: while there has been no evidence of Iran building a nuclear bomb, its large stockpile of near-weapons grade enriched uranium and refusal to grant my inspectors full access are cause for serious concern. For these reasons, my previous reports indicate that unless and until Iran assists the @IAEAorg in resolving the outstanding safeguards issues, the Agency will not be in a position to provide assurance that Iran’s nuclear programme is exclusively peaceful.

#Syria: celebrations tonight in #Homs following reports that Iran's supreme leader, Khamenei, has been killed. He stands as the ultimate symbol of occupation, while many residents of the city still bear the deep scars of the siege, marked by significant Hezbollah involvement from July 2013 onward.

Platforms 5-6 Richmond Station..No trains running. Not sure if commuters have noticed that since the Cranbourne Service has been redirected through the Metro; that is, via ANZAC station, platforms 5 and 6 at Richmond Station are hardly used anymore apart from the regional services. Under this new arrangement Platforms 3 and 4 are used to access the Frankston/City loop service as well as Cranbourne /Sunbury commuters taking the Frankston service to interchange at Malvern, State Library etc. The big question is what happens in three or four weeks time when the footy season kicks off and 10,000's patrons MCG patrons will be shunted onto the single platform. A shuttle services has been suggested by some, but I haven't heard nothing official as yet. Leaving platform 5 and 6 sitting idle in such a vital inner city station, has not been fully explained as yet I don't think. @ptua @theage
