Some 40+ years before building of Hadrian's Wall the Romans were already carving up the landscape with the Stanegate. A Road linking Corbridge with Carlisle guarded by six forts. After the withdrawal from Scotland in AD 84 it became Romes northern frontier. Well worth a walk

University of Essex research indicates that a heathly lifestyle can reduce the risk of Alzheimers by up to a third. Healthy is a steady 2.5 hour walk per week. On Hadrian's Wall you'll enjoy that in a morning rosstweed.com

@STORI3D_PAST @perlineamvalli Brilliant story....Has anyone seen the Olympic room in the White Swan at Alnwick. Taken from the RMS Olympic (sister ship to the Titanic) when she was broken up on the Tyne.

@perlineamvalli Funny that just now I get to Jessie Mothersole’s note on Wallsend &
the Carpathia.

Your regular reminder that the Carpathia contained some stones from #hadrianswall, currently the most westerly pieces of that frontier (and the only bit to have been torpedoed). Go see the model!

#TitaniconTyne The builder's model of the #Carpathia the ship that saved most of the survivors of the #Titanic disaster on display @SegedunumFort is a hidden gem. A #mustsee for all Titanic enthusiasts.
