Not everyone in scrubs is a nurse. Titles matter. Training matters. Identity matters. I encouraged the auxiliaries to pursue proper training or find a better path for themselves and I offered to help. From that moment, everything shifted. “Nr Adekunle AA” became more prestigious to me than any other title. Now, when a patient calls me “Doctor,” I respond: “I’m Nurse Adekunle. How may I help you?” Because I’ve learned this: Living under false pretence doesn’t elevate you it limits your growth. Be who you are. Stand in it. Build from it.
