🤭I’ve been wondering why Giyuu thought giving Sanemi ohagi would help them become friends. At that moment, Giyuu is even shown smiling with a little “MUFUFU.” That kind of mufufu has a slightly suggestive, smug little grin to it — like he’s quietly pleased with himself, a bit happy, and maybe even a little proud 😏 Usually he’s so calm and cool, but here, for once, he comes across as a little oblivious and adorably offbeat. And that’s exactly why it’s so cute. But at the same time, it also made me wonder: how did someone as thoughtful and gentle as him arrive at such an almost comically misguided idea? 🤔 I don’t think Giyuu is “off” simply because he’s dense. I think it may be because he grew up assuming, on some level, that he would be loved. He is, in a way, a loved boy. Hehe, just read this casually. I feel like the so-called “natural water duo” — those adorably airheaded fellow disciples who can’t quite read the room — actually share one important trait. Both of them seem to have been deeply, abundantly loved by the people closest to them. And I think that kind of love had a very strong influence on the foundation of who they became. Giyuu was protected by his sister Tsutako, who gave her life for him. He was also protected by Sabito, and then raised by Sakonji Urokodaki. In other words, I think Giyuu is someone who grew up on the receiving end of sincere, unconditional love. And that may be exactly why, when Shinobu told him, “People dislike you,” he responded, “I am not disliked.” That scene is played very much like a joke, but I honestly think Gotouge is not the kind of writer who makes a character say something they do not truly believe. So I don’t think that line was bluffing or pride. I think it was Giyuu’s genuine truth. Maybe, somewhere deep down, the idea that people close to him might actually dislike him was simply never a major part of how he understood relationships. And I think that’s a little awkward, but also incredibly endearing 🤭 I think this is also connected to why Giyuu believed ohagi could help him become closer to Sanemi. He seems like the kind of person who feels affection toward those who are kind to him. So if he offers something that would make him happy, maybe that feeling itself would naturally be conveyed too. There’s a kind of innocent trust in him — this quiet belief that if you offer something good with sincerity, your feelings will reach the other person. So then, what about Sanemi? Sanemi, too, was loved by his mother. But at the same time, he also grew up in an environment where violence came from those close to him, and he was exposed to harsh realities from a very young age in a poor household. And especially after being separated from Genya, he threw himself into the brutally lonely life of fighting demons on his own. He had to survive in places that were harsh and unsafe. So it would make perfect sense if the two of them developed very different assumptions about people, and very different ways of receiving affection. Giyuu, having been loved and protected, tends to return what he receives as love in a very direct and unfiltered way. Sanemi, on the other hand, knows what love is too — but violence, poverty, loss, and isolation were so overwhelming in his life that opening his heart easily, or accepting someone’s goodwill at face value, would naturally be much harder for him.Because he likely had to face much more malice, he would naturally become more aggressive. Seen that way, Giyuu’s “ohagi strategy” doesn’t feel like simple thoughtlessness. It starts to look more like the structure of his kindness — the way his goodwill naturally takes shape. That said… if he really hid the ohagi inside his uniform, it would apparently get all squished and ruined anyway, so in that sense too, it probably would have made Sanemi even angrier 😂 He delivered the ohagi to Nezuko and the others in a box.
