@doctorow As a longtime (very long) tech professional, and having explored voting tech with some really smart people, I'm 100% for all paper, no tech. If you take the tech route, you'll just end up with a crappier, more expensive, version of paper.

Cory Doctorow NO LONGER ON TWIT TER
The 2020 US elections were a reality check for how fragile the legitimacy of elections really is. This is something that paper ballot advocates have been beating the drum on for decades, even before Bush v Gore. 1/

@RichardDawkins My favorite mind-blowing fact (that I probably realized while reading one of your books, or maybe Gould's) is that, over hundreds of millions of years, none of my ancestors ever failed at reproducing.

There will come a time when you will be the ancestor of either every human on Earth or none.

@PalmerReport Doesn't matter, this is just a prelude to give Trump a reason to pardon himself - Barr isn't suddenly done with Trump, he's just been working out the details on how to pull it all off.

@ID_AA_Carmack As fellow 50-year old, the 1940s to us as kids are like the 1980s to current kids.

When I was young, the 1940s were the truly ancient times of golden age comics. At 50, "25 years before I was born" sounds quite recent, and 1776 is now only "a few lifetimes ago".

@paulg Serious questions: If one group has worse ideas than another group, would we be seeing a similar phenomenon? Do we need to allow people to freely, continuously express their flat earth beliefs in all forums? How do we differentiate between good suppression and bad?

Without saying what year you started coding, Quote this tweet with something (an ide, a build/ deploy process) to signify how long you've been coding

@paulg I've found most great thinkers I've known in life to be very playful individuals - capering thought seems a boon for problem solving and inventiveness

One thing I didn't get about technical fields as a kid is that rigor is the standard ideas have to meet, not the source of them. The source is often the cheesiest sort of guessing.

My friend Trevor Blackwell, who made the first dynamically balancing biped (paulgraham.com/anybots.html) told me that a 6' man has to move his feet in ~400 ms to avoid falling. I wonder if sometimes, when old people fall, the root of the problem is not balance per se but speed.

@anthony_s77 Polling is just ... polling. 2016 fell well within the margin of error. It doesn't predict, it just informs! Best not to pay too much attention to it.

Am I the only one who has completely lost faith in polling? After 2016, I generally just laugh when I see them.

@A2Slauson Good idea to let people know that school at Slauson starts next Monday, rather than after Labor day as expected by incoming elementary students! (Nearly all parents I know were surprised by this fact!)

These #DailyFastTests can stop the pandemic. (Yes, you read that right) Keep tweeting, retweeting, posting on FB, talking about it with friends, asking about it at work - every small conversation helps to help create a groundswell of awareness and support. #RapidTestsNOW

To save society from this virus, we need to focus on daily fast #COVID19 tests. These are more critical now than even vaccines Forget the headlines! These are not less accurate. They are perhaps MORE accurate to tell when transmitting Ill explain 1/ nytimes.com/2020/08/06/hea…
