Crazy to accuse a two-term mayor of Indianapolis of "spoiling" an election for statewide office. He's improving an election that was previously spoiled. If major parties want a two person race, they should run better candidates so others don't have to get involved.

Interestingly, Republicans are mad at former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard because he's running as an independent candidate for Indiana Secretary of State. This is what happened to me in 2015: Democrats were upset with me when I almost ran for mayor of Indianapolis as an independent. They argued that I would draw too many Democratic votes and let a Republican win the mayor's race. Both parties tend to ignore the dissatisfaction many of us feel about the current direction of our party. There are plenty of centrists and moderates in both the Democratic and Republican parties who are uncomfortable with their extreme policies or the perception that an elected official is corrupt. Yet, these parties push us to accept their candidates, even when those candidates don't align with our values or views. I believe Americans deserve better. Both parties have the right to field far-left or far-right candidates, but voters shouldn't be forced to pick the lesser of two undesirable choices. Perhaps it’s time to create an independent party that truly represents the values and views of millions of centrist, moderate, and independent voters in America. Just food for thought.

@DaveVino @charlesharriso5 Independents win more than they lose in Indiana. You're right that Diego likely won't be the next Secretary of State. But don't worry! Neither will Bayh.

@DaveVino @charlesharriso5 Ah yes, the famous propaganda wing of the independent movement. No, though I do believe independent candidates can govern more effectively because they don't have to cowtow to party primary voters or convention delegates.

@heywillconway @charlesharriso5 98% should have stayed in SC. What are you some propagandist for independents. At this point it's a lost vote... and all it does it Ross Perot potential winning candidates.

Imagine needing to be liked or accepted by a group of people so bad that your willing to villainize someone like Greg Ballard to try to save someone like Diego Morales. Politics just brings out the absolute worst in people.

This attitude is horrifying. Politics is a team sport, sure. But your team is supposed to be your constituents - the voters you represent - not devotion to a political party. Party loyalty tests are the bane of modern politics.

@CarStan1114 @charlesharriso5 Hey Carrie - he left for two years, five years ago. He didn't leave in 2023 - he came back in 2023. Prior to that, he was a lifelong Hoosier. And still is.

@charlesharriso5 My problem is Ballard moved to SC two years ago and came back to run, that's shady. One of the reasons I don't like Beau Baye either, don't come to Indiana just to run for office. We should have plenty of true residents willing to step up for our state.

I am a Democrat, but former mayor Greg Ballard is a good man, fair, and an independent thinker who will always put the residents of Indiana first. He had strong support in the black community in Indianapolis.

@charlesharriso5 I understand your point. I've liked Greg, I liked what he did in Indianapolis, but he won't win. He should have entered in a GOP primary. This will get Bayh elected, which would be another disaster.

@GregforIndiana Is he lying? Does it matter to you where someone lives, when they’re saying they represent certain people? Why is this “nonsense” and not something you proactively addressed?

This kind of nonsense is exactly why I’m running. We moved back to Indiana in March of 2023 and registered to vote soon thereafter, like any good citizen would.

Getting on the ballot in Indiana requires an absurd number of petition signatures, but independents manage to run and win in the state - they win more than they lose, actually. If Ballard earns just 2% of the vote, he earns them a ballot line, and the floodgates open. Genius.

This @GregforIndiana campaign is a model for the country: a well respected, integral leader running to serve and running to open up ballot access to Hoosiers locally. Love it.
