A Sudanese political analyst said that the cases of #Somaliland and the South Arabian state are legitimate political causes. Both countries fought and struggled for the independence they deserve. Any state opposing their sovereignty, he added, does so for self-interest, not to defend justice.

#Djibouti is weaponizing its #AU chair to keep monopoly influence over the #RedSea corridor.
Elevating fragile #Somalia to the AUPSC/APRM isn’t reform, its strategic gatekeeping.
You can delay momentum, not stop it.
Recognition is geopolitics, not AU theatrics.

Tiny Djibouti and the AU Chair Mohamoud Ali have instrumentalised the African Union, turned into an tool of naked partisanship; a weapon to block the international recognition of Somaliland.
Just two latest moves:
Somalia elevated into the AUPSC - undeservingly.
Somalia put on African peer review mechanism - a role that ought to be reserved for states that are least fragile, well-governed and can exercise positive peer pressure.
But can the AU alone and singly stop a powerful international momentum?
Isn't the real decider of Somaliland recognition ultimately not geopolitics and bilateral strategic choice, rather than outdated normative multilateral principles?

Thank you for this important reminder of our history, Abdirahman Ahmed Ali was a rare statesman: traditional in roots, democratic in vision, unwavering in principle. We have not yet done justice to his legacy but history will @hargeysawi27/photo/7581008124748860728?_r=1&_t=ZT-93zeXc08doL" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">tiktok.com/@hargeysawi27/…

HSM is now apparently packing the Somali parliament with non-MPs - something unprecedented and astounding and which can only speak to his desperation to cling to power.
The issue has been flagged by opposition MPs multiple times but no action taken.
Idd Bedel is a Jubaland politician opposed to Madobe.
He was spotted in Parliament this week posing as MP.

Unpacking today's earth shattering news:
1. Somaliland: Dont let anyone misconstrue or dampen your joy. Celebrate. Be happy.
2. See the big picture. The Abraham Accords = Jared Kushner = Pres. Donald Trump. This is just the start.
3. Now is the time to give an ultimatum to the UK, EU and others. The landscape has changed fundamentally. Dictate the rules of engagement, if they want to deal with you, they must recognise you as a sovereign state. We cant go back to dealing with anyone as a subnational region of Somalia.
4. We unite behind President Cabdiraxmaan Cirro, right or wrong. He will be facing a lot of headwind and the population must stand resolute behind their leadership.
Genuinely lost for words.. I am so happy for my people. The moment we fought for all these years is upon us. This is history, remember where you were when you heard the news.. you will be telling your grandchildren about it.
Somaliland flag at the UN is next, inshallah.

A mistake that took 65 years is, at last, corrected. Somaliland is once again recognised as an independent sovereign state and rejoins the international community as an equal partner. WHAT A DAY. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I had the honour of sharing an official dinner in Dubai with HRH Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, brother of HM King Charles III, and Sir Gavin Williamson MP, a close friend of the Republic of Somaliland.
Our engagement reaffirmed the historic ties, mutual respect, and strong cooperation between the Republic of Somaliland and the United Kingdom, as well as our shared commitment to peace, security, development, and international partnership.
The Republic of Somaliland remains steadfast in its commitment to diplomacy grounded in constructive dialogue, peaceful coexistence, democracy, and enhanced global cooperation.
