When WWI ended in this underground city a century ago, soldiers left many objects behind. These objects are on a cooking platform that served as a kitchen for the hundreds of troops that lived here. This place is a world frozen-in-time. #ww1 #blackandwhitephotography

China played a role in WWI. This underground city was the home of Chinese troops who served principally as laborers. Many died in the conflict. A Chinese inscriptions carved a century ago marks the entrance to this place. #ww1 #blackandwhitephotography

Nude sculpture carved in stone 100 years ago by French soldiers. “Le Reve du Poilu” translate to “The dream of the ordinary soldier”. The sculpture is about 5 meters in length and is at ground level at the entrance to a WWI underground city. #ww1 #blackandwhitephotography

A large can, probably used to hold an industrial fluid like oil. The underground space where this is found has some amazing carvings. Sadly, several of these have been mutilated or stolen. #ww1 #blackandwhitephotography

Carving of Lord Kitchner was the British Secretary of State for War at the outbreak of WWI in 1914. He and 600 others drowned in 1916 when his ship struck a German mine in the Atlantic just off Scotland. #ww1 #blackandwhitephotography
