The result extends Trump's purge streak — five state senators in Indiana, Cassidy in Louisiana, Massie in Kentucky, and now Cornyn in Texas, all within weeks. Paxton faces Democrat James Talarico in a general election that could decide whether Republicans hold their slim 53-47 Senate majority. Texas hasn't elected a Democrat to the Senate in nearly 40 years — but Talarico hauled in $27 million in Q1 alone.
