To even suggest that a backwater economy the size of ours could take a moral position on any of this at all is a) stupid, and b) comes from a place of privilege, showing total disregard for the consequences, the brunt of which will be faced by the poorest members of our society.

Political discourse on Twitter has been hijacked by idiots who think we have any kind of say in great-power shenanigans. This platform used to be interesting.

You can hate Israel. You can even hate the Israeli people for electing governments that commit such atrocities on the Palestinian people. But if you hold random non-Israeli Jews responsible for Israel's crimes, you gotta question your ability to think critically. Or think at all.

The govt brags about how, unlike in 2022, the country now has funds. They conveniently leave out the part about how those funds came to be.

I understand the post-crisis anti-establishment feeling that got the NPP elected. I hate the opposition's naked opportunism. I feel bad that AKD can't catch a break. But I wish the NPP's supporters would hold their beloved govt to the same high standards they claim to champion.

Always concerning when private media continues to back the govt even as anti-govt sentiment starts to creep in. It sucks when state media does it too but that's to be expected. When profit-motivated private media does it, something more than simple partisanship has to be at play.

I beg NPP fanboys waxing lyrical about energy independence to look up the JVP's historical position on energy sector reform.

Sri Lankan pro-Palestine activists don't seem to be aware that a lot of "anti-Zionism" from American evangelical types is thinly veiled antisemitism. Because they blame the Jews for Christ's crucifixion. They're not your allies. They don't care about Palestinians. Or about you.

It seems unfair that the political left, which is supposed to speak up for the economic interests of the hardworking majority, a lot of whom happen to be poor, dismiss them entirely to demand justice for a numerical minority of state sector unions who recoil at a whiff of reform.

Especially since most consumers in SL just get by. We're far from a rich country. Liberals make the mistake of referring to them as "taxpayers", a word that, in the leftist imagination, conjures up images of disposable income that doesn't really exist. Most pay tax indirectly.

I sympathise with state sector workers, but the left, which has historically monopolised this particular cohort, tends to overlook the interests of the consumers, who make up the majority of the population and arguably subsidise many govt workers' very employment. It feels wrong.
