Three companies make 75% of the world’s large gas turbines: GE Vernova, Siemens Energy, and Mitsubishi Power. All three have backlogs stretching to 2029 or 2030, and wait times have gone from two or three years to five or seven. Bloomberg estimates more than $400 billion in planned gas plants could be delayed or cancelled because there aren’t enough turbines being made.

2/n DRDO made IIR Seeker [ Imaging Infrared (IIR) ]by RCI (Research Centre Imarat) in Hyderabad.
#explanation of Working
🔹 Detector - - - >DRDO uses Mercury Cadmium Telluride (HgCdTe) or Indium Antimonide (InSb) sensors. These are organized into a grid......operates primarily in (MWIR) band (3-5 um) which is ideal for spoting hot engine parts
🔹 Cryogenic Cooling - - - >To "see" heat, the sensor itself must be incredibly cold to avoid its own thermal noise.
DRDO utilizes Stirling-cycle cryocoolers or high-pressure Argon gas to bring the sensor down to roughly 77 Kelvin (-196°C) within seconds of activation.
🔹 Signal Processing: - - - > The seeker uses an onboard processor running Real-Time Target Identification algorithms.
So basically it compares the infrared image it sees with a library of known enemy vehicle shapes to ensure it doesn't hit a burning bush or a flare.... This is how it detects the tank or this is how it also avoids flares....
➡️ This is why the modern IIR Seekers are much more adv and trained
🔹 Gimbal Stabilization: The seeker is mounted on a 3-axis gyro-stabilized platform.
It also gives us 2 very important modes in Anti Tank
🔹 LOBL and LOAL
👉 Lock-On Before Launch (LOBL): Used in the MPATGM. The operator views the thermal feed from the missile's seeker through the CLU. The operator draws a digital box around the target, and the seeker memorizes the thermal sig before the trigger is pulled.
👉 Lock-On After Launch (LOAL): Used in longer-range systems. The missile is fired blindly toward a suspected target area using inertial navigation. Once in the terminal phase of flight, the IIR seeker activates, scans the area, autonomously identifies the target, and executes the strike.
The imaging sensor helps here, LOAL mode allows Longer range targets being hit

India often imported seekers (like the French ones for early Milan or Israeli ones). Now, the Focal Plane Array (FPA) and the Signal Processing algorithms are developed by RCI and produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and BEL.
Even the The Materials: Even Cadmium Zinc Telluride used in the sensors have been indigenized through labs like the Solid State Physics Laboratory (SSPL).
