the web3 job market isn’t dead , but hiring has completely changed.
i stayed through this whole stream and wrote down what actually matters.
i wrote this mainly because a lot of people right now are either hiring, job hunting, or trying to make sense of the market.
i’ve only listened to owen’s stream twice since last year, but one thing i’d say is this: he usually speaks from experience, truth, and it’s reflective, and relatable.
this conversation was useful because it came from two sides:
@OW3NBTC from the hiring, recruiter, market side
@martinlecl from the devrel ,developer team side
so it felt like hearing both sides of the same market.
for context: owen has placed 130+ people across 36 countries into blockchain teams and projects, working with everything from funded series A startups to major L1s shaping the space.
so here’s my whole take:
1/ the web3 job market is still active, but it is way more competitive now.
there are still jobs, but there are more people chasing fewer roles. that means this is not the season for vague positioning, weak proof of work, or lazy applications.
2/ one thing that stood out was this: it’s not just about getting the next job now, it’s about getting the right job.
that matters because a lot of people have now seen enough layoffs, silent layoffs, and short-lived hype cycles to stop moving carelessly.
3/ hiring has rely changed because applications have changed.
ai has made it easier for people to mass-apply, generate polished resumes, and flood job boards with low-signal applications.
so companies are leaning more into:
trusted networks, referrals, people they’ve met ,before maybe irl or etc
4/ one of the clearest lessons from the stream was this:
your best recruiter is you.
your skills are your product.
your personal brand is your marketing.
and your messages are your sales.
5/ build in public is still one of the highest leverage things you can do.
because visibility reduces doubts abit .
when people can already see what you think, what you build, how you write, and how you solve problems, they trust faster.
6/ another important point: a lot of strong developers still do not position themselves well online.
they may be talented, but their socials, github, or portfolio do not help recruiters understand them quickly.
and in a more competitive market, it could be frustrating .
7/ hackathons still matter.
because they compress a lot into one place:
builders, founders, recruiters, teams, signal, conversation, and live proof of work.
martin’s side of the conversation reinforced this too. building matters, but being able to explain what you built matters too .
8/ they also touched on something many people ignore:
soft skills still matter. even for highly technical roles.
because eventually you still need to:
communicate clearly, ask good questions, explain your decisions, work with people, represent your ideas well
9/ another key part was around due diligence.
not just for companies hiring, but also for candidates.
people are becoming more careful now.
more due diligence before joining teams
10/ the fake recruiter point was also very important.
a lot of hacks and scams now come through fake hiring flows, fake recruiter accounts, fake interview links, or suspicious meeting links of which i’ve also experienced .

Is now the Worst or Best time to work in Web3? x.com/i/broadcasts/1…

yeah so the hiring game just changed:
a company is hiring "vibe coding developers" for blockchain. no resume. no degree. just your github and proof of work.
meanwhile someone else pointed out that "AI skills" are really just communication skills. knowing how to prompt is knowing how to explain what you want clearly.
the best resume in 2026 is a github profile and clear thinking. that's it.

How Developers Are Earning From Web3 Bounties in 2026
You don’t always need a full-time job to earn in Web3.
Many developers today are earning through bounties.
Fix a bug.
Ship a feature.
Write docs.
Build tooling.
Get paid.
Here are platforms where builders are actively earning 👇
1.) Gitcoin Bounties (@gitcoin)
One of the earliest Web3 bounty platforms.
Developers earn by:
• fixing issues in open-source repos
• building small features
• contributing to Web3 tooling
Many builders got their first Web3 income here.
👉 gitcoin.co
2.) Dework (@deworkxyz)
A Web3-native task management platform used by DAOs.
Projects post tasks like:
• frontend fixes
• contract integrations
• documentation updates
Complete tasks → earn rewards.
👉 dework.xyz
3.) Layer3 (@layer3xyz)
Task-based platform where builders earn rewards for completing ecosystem quests.
Good for:
• exploring new protocols
• learning tools
• earning tokens
👉 layer3.xyz
4.) DoraHacks Bounties (@DoraHacks)
Besides hackathons, many protocols post bounty challenges.
Builders can earn by:
• building tooling
• contributing code
• creating integrations
👉 dorahacks.io
5.) Code4rena Contests (@code4rena)
Security bounty competitions.
Smart contract auditors review protocol code and earn rewards for vulnerabilities.
Some contests distribute $50k+ in rewards.
👉 code4rena.com
6.) Immunefi Bug Bounties (@immunefi)
Security researchers earn rewards for finding vulnerabilities in live protocols.
Top payouts have reached millions.
👉 immunefi.com
7.) Superteam Bounties (Solana) (@Superteam)
Ecosystem bounties posted by Solana projects.
Tasks include:
• dev tooling
• integrations
• ecosystem apps
👉 superteam.fun
Why this matters:
Bounties let developers:
• build real experience
• earn while learning
• contribute to open-source
• connect with protocol teams
Many full-time Web3 roles started with a small bounty.
If you're building in Web3 in 2026,
bounties are one of the easiest ways to get started.
