Thank U 2 everyone who has taken an interest in New Power Studio, a museum in Japan dedicated 2 celebrating Prince. The name of this studio was given by none other than John Blackwell Jr.— the very drummer Prince called “The Magnificent.” He is a true legend, having performed with world-renowned artists such as Patti LaBelle, Hikaru Utada, D'Angelo, Nik West, Bootsy Collins, Justin Timberlake, Cameo, Candy Dulfer, Crystal Kay, and many more. I still remember the day he came 2 the studio. He wrote the name with a wish: “That New Power would be born here—and spread across the world.” After that, he told me he wanted 2 learn karate. So we trained 2gether, and he spent time playing with my children. It became an unforgettable moment—one that still feels like yesterday. Here, we carefully preserve the cymbals he used during recordings with Prince—including those that were also played by Prince himself—the drumsticks he played with at Celebration, the snare drum from his final tour with Nik West, and an illustration of John by Japanese purple illustrator Mr. Sugiyama. New Power Studio is a place where positivity gathers.
