If this age were to be the orphan rather than heir of the future it would almost give us cause to be fond of it. Almost. If it were to be gone and become alien to us we could remember it and become fond. That was the dream we had we'd say and it was a strange dream we would say.

Suppose the apocalypse were not around the corner and instead there was a return to reality as it was known. Suppose our towers of Babel were to collapse and ordinary grass grow over them. Then this would seem indeed the strangest time, stranger even than it seems already.

Masculinity and femininity are a good way of giving some depth and texture to differences which would be trivial and boring between people of the same sex. This statement only seems silly because God already put masculinity and femininity there. They block your path like the sun.

The chronic procrastinator is often someone for whom most experiences and thoughts hurt like hot coals. If I could indenture myself to something with the certainty I wouldn't be made to flee by the sting of the coals it threw my way I'd take the sting of those coals as payment.
