Say a daily rosary if you can at all. It will do your soul much good.

My shoulders are relaxed. My ribs expand. My jaw is properly aligned. I breathe in the most easy and satisfying way. My spine lengthens and decompresses of its own glad accord. Pow!

Being slandered is like a snake coming out of the showerhead. You're disconcerted by it, even unto your constitution. Water seems leviathan afterwards.

Nothing was right at all and certainly nothing was quite right but strangest of all things in some ways we had everything.

If this age were to be the orphan rather than heir of the future it would almost give us cause to be fond of it. Almost. If it were to be gone and become alien to us we could remember it and become fond. That was the dream we had we'd say and it was a strange dream we would say.

Suppose the apocalypse were not around the corner and instead there was a return to reality as it was known. Suppose our towers of Babel were to collapse and ordinary grass grow over them. Then this would seem indeed the strangest time, stranger even than it seems already.

If you wrap up the little mouse in a shawl and quilted blankets, he becomes warm. Add to it a bonnet and he is secure from the cold. Pondering this can be a fireplace of the heart.

Someone that devious and putrid cannot be all bad, because the Devil cannot make that perfectly corrupt a simulacrum of a perfect human being... There has to be something real there for the end of time to reveal, to thresh out what went wrong, to reveal the inversion...

Darwinism describes the thing called life which is the enemy and freedom from which is true life.

Kindness, piety, justice, loyalty and other virtues are the only things that matter and they're the same in everyone who has them. Nobody has them as their own peculiar possession. The only things which make a human being truly interesting and substantial are available to us all.

You mature once the human race loses its mystery to you. We can never be the fullness of our mystery as we present it, but we can be more valuable than our mystery.

As you grow older you recognise that 'interesting people' are only truly substantial insofar as they keep the general human virtues well. Nobody can live up to their facade in perpetuity but our plain depths can be better than our superficial mystery.

The chronic procrastinator is often someone for whom most experiences and thoughts hurt like hot coals. If I could indenture myself to something with the certainty I wouldn't be made to flee by the sting of the coals it threw my way I'd take the sting of those coals as payment.

Genuine misogynists or misandrists are like Rangers or Celtic fans. They take their team much too seriously and are generally misanthropists.
