“Architecture Astronaut” has quite a ring to it. Thanks for the new bio byline.

@prudhvir3ddy On the first sight, looks like many "architecture astronauts" moved away. Hope that practical minds who like the product stayed behind. This only fuels my interest in talking to Twitter Android devs who maintain this app nowadays (and do pretty good job, all things considered).

My job search is over. In a few weeks, I’ll be joining the OS team at @CashApp, and I can’t wait. Taking 6 months out has been so good for my mental health. I know I am privileged to be able to do that, but I was feeling burnt out. The time out has helped immensely 🧘‍♂️

@GergelyOrosz Maybe, i guess it depends on the team size. At that point it doesn't matter if it's a big tech. All boils down to team size. Pretty much take care of what you own and fix it if it breaks.

@hitherekaran But it needs to be mandatory at most of Big Tech, where teams are small - two-pizza teams -, autonomous and operate according to "you build it, you own it!" Without it, oncall would be unmanageable for the team.

Looking back on my own experiences with oncall, I feel I've been in an "oncall bubble", assuming that because my last several companies had oncall as "part of the job": unpaid, and sometimes high-stress, this was the industry norm. In reality, it was only the norm in my bubble.

@GergelyOrosz I believe on-call doesn't need to be mandatory (unless of course it's a very small team). From a big-tech perspective, it's better to participate in it as you'll learn how triage works, how a postmortem is done, etc. Cherry on the top if the company pays you somehow for it 🍒 !

It's only now that I've researched oncall approaches that I realize there's a huge variety in how oncall approaches, and there *is* much healthier oncall practices even within e.g. Big Tech. And sometimes more "traditional" companies have healthier setups than the big orgs...

@JamesTravor @BreensR If you're aimlessly modularizing, trying to predict a future that may not come, it's likely you'll end up with modularization across the wrong seams That's where "data-domain-presentation" also came from: people wanted modules, but without a goal. Now all code is non-reusable 😕

6 months in and I'm realizing that the Android app I'm working on at work didn't need that kind of modularization. I can now see why you shouldn't go with the hype. Use a certain framework, language, or architecture based on what fits your requirements

At ASOS we are currently tackling the (quite significant) task of removing Kotlin synthetics given the imminent deprecation of the Kotlin Android Extensions plugin I wish anyone else going through this the best of luck 😩 Thankfully the team have done a great job thus far!

@PlayVALORANT @ValorLeaks can we fix the RGX vandal automatically changing to a random color whenever a new one is bought? I love how the RGX knife stays the same color throughout the game, but you have to spend a minute going through random vandal colors to match with knife😅.
