Grade 1 has a special place in my heart! So lucky to have had such a wonderful class this past year 🫶🏻

We decorated our class rocks after reading Only One You, by Linda Kranz.

We created comics that were based on what would happen if our parents gave us a YES DAY! So impressed with the creative ideas!

The kindergarteners came in to experience grade 1 writing! Our first graders were such great helpers, coaching the kindies on writing on the lines and sounding out their ideas. 💕

Something’s growing! 🌸

After going outside to look for 3D shapes in our own school playgrounds, grade 1s were challenged to design and draw their own dream playgrounds.

Using our knowledge of 2D shapes to construct 3D objects like cutes and pyramids!

Today we talked about the word ‘equal’ in relation to weight and balance. How many manipulatives do we need to balance the weight on the other side?

We’ve started researching animals of interest in science! Grade 1s worked in pairs to look through a non-fiction animal book of their choosing and find the following information: habitat, food/water, and interesting facts!

We used a tool called a Mira to determine whether or not our 2D shape was symmetrical or asymmetrical.

Word work is one of my favourite activities in grade 1! This first grader challenges himself to always write a sentence to go with our weekly words during our whiteboard spelling practices.

We played a game where one partner built a picture and the other partner had to use their listening skills to try and build the exact same picture without being able to see it. When we lifted our dividers, we determined if we built a symmetrical picture or not.

We noticed some differences in our class trees now that it’s mid-spring! 🌸

Her name is the last food you ate

In their table groups, Gr 1s collaborated to make a paper airplane. ✈️ It was great to hear the conversations being had before any folds took place. We then tested our group planes to see how far they’d fly!

We used oil pastels to create Roz from The Wild Robot. Our book is becoming a movie! The movie Roz was our art inspiration! We can’t wait to add acrostic poems to our artwork.
