However, there are still some untold stories I'd like to add. :) Among the children participating in the MIND Program was a teenager with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) whom I have been treating for over 10 years, since their kindergarten days. ​This child didn't know how to play any instruments and was very quiet and expressionless at the beginning of the program. ​One day, while the other children were playing their respective instruments, the child said to themselves with a sullen face, "I don't know how to play an instrument..." ​At that moment, Suga, who was nearby, approached quietly and said: "Your voice is an instrument, too. [Child's Name] can just sing~" ​As soon as he said that, the child smiled brightly and suddenly began to sing loudly. It was a moment that surprised and moved everyone. ​That day, the child went home and told their mother several times, "Mom! Teacher Min said my voice is an instrument. I'm going to sing now!" When the mother came for the next session, her eyes welled up with tears as she relayed this story. ​Since the child usually only gave short answers to my questions and rarely spoke during treatment, this was a meaningful case where music acted as a medium to transcend the limits of language and emotional expression, drawing out the hidden potential within the child. ​Truthfully, before the program began, there were concerns about whether Suga would find it difficult to meet children with severe autism for the first time. ​However, once the sessions started, he approached the children at their level more than anyone else, delicately reading each child's unique characteristics and difficulties, and leading them naturally. All the therapists involved were deeply impressed. ​Suga said, "It's just that their way of expressing themselves is different," seeing the children's strengths and potential without prejudice, before anyone else did. ​Perhaps that's why all the children went home and said in unison, "I like Teacher Min the best!" 🥹 ​Of course, the children had no idea until the end of the sessions that "Teacher Min" was actually Suga from BTS~ ^^
