@BrandonMorehous You wrote a post. I just read it. Now I’m responding to it. Congrats! You are a published author. Quit wasting time listening to your doubts, hoist your pirate flag and get busy modernhoglegs627864.substack.com/p/never-shall-…

For those looking for online periodicals open for submissions, this is the place I referenced in my post about Raconteur Press wwww.teamandmore.org/open-calls

@byCMarques Shelf?! That’s just giving up. Change the timeline. History does not repeat but it rhymes loudly. Could you rework it as a Gaslight (Victorian) era? Maybe Steampunk it? Throw it forward into spec-fic? Fight!
English

I think I might have to come to terms with the fact that my latest mystery novel has become outdated for the current market (I started drafting in 2023.)
I hate having to shelf another project! 🥲

@hoglegpress Wait! This actually make sense if you pen down a few ideas to help you get less anxious
English

@SsempalaEd23472 A great source of ideas are On This Day in History blurbs. Some strange little factoid can hit you like a xenomorph facehugger, and you have a story seed with half the plot mapped out. I write ‘em down in my seeds and let them grow by adding notes over time
English

@hoglegpress The “seed folder” is such a writer thing honestly 😂
A place full of unfinished scenes, ideas, conversations, and concepts waiting for the right version of you to return to them later.
English

This might offend writers, but
some writers are addicted to starting books, not finishing them.
Because starting feels exciting and full of possibility.
Finishing forces you to face structure, flaws, editing, and uncertainty.

@Kumo_KD Not at all. For me it’s a sense of triumph to type The End. The caveat is I can always circle back and visit my old friends again when I get another idea. It doesn’t have to be a novel. It might be a short. It might be an in universe with new players where my original cameo.
English

@hoglegpress So with a lot of ideas, you don’t really feel the emptiness?

@Vvajk Yup, still a thing. Look on the raconteur press site. They have a link to an index of periodicals. I am afk or I would get you the link.
English

@AuthorGFAllen Definitely hard copy. Always available. No clawbacks based on “digital rights management” clauses that say I don’t own the book. No company deliberately bricking my device, on and on, ad nauseam.

@SsempalaEd23472 I just emptied out my reject folder by releasing “The Castaway Files” and placing them in the Based Book Sale short story niche sale. Now I have actual reviews on Amazon. amazon.com/dp/B0DPL7RCWZ?…

@oseyizackwrites The option is always there. Maybe book 2 or 3 or 10 hits the mark for the agent. Those other. Oils can be out there earning a few Pennie’s but building recognition and your brand.
English

@hoglegpress I'm almost seriously considering it but then, I haven't been in the query trenches for even a year yet, so I might just wing it until I win it ☺️
English

Sometimes I wish all it took to be an author was to finish writing a novel. I love writing so much but the process of getting published is a real kill joy 🥺

@Kumo_KD Only because I’m afraid I’ll forget that really cool thing I just thought of. Notebooks! Notebooks are the solution that lets me sleep at night.
