also, oito doing the baby swap to save her daughter from a literal death match is a desperate mother doing whatever it takes to survive. and kurapika is still exactly where he needs to be for his own goals regardless of what she did 😭😭

oito shifted between a female “b” and a male “b” (closer to a “v”). and to kurapika’s japanese/common language ears, both sounds registered as the exact same syllable. so she basically weaponized a language barrier to get past his nen chain #beastmode

in hxhverse, the common language is functionally understood as japanese (I think the official guide said this). kurapika thinks and listens in this language. but the kakin native language has completely different speech sounds that dont exist in the common language’s structure
