My 66 yo mum with visibly poor physical heath was refused help from @Tesco delivery to lift these boxes into the house. Has pulled her back lifting & he wouldn’t take crates away until she emptied them so now has them in her lounge over Xmas. @tesconews sort it out!

@RogersHistory It’s a practical and useful one. If you’re working late -they’ll be there, if you need something moved -they’ll help, if you need insider info, they’ll have it. And often great down to earth folk not involved in school politics.

What would your #1 tip be to a teacher starting in a new school this September?

@RogersHistory I recently commented on a school doing this with balloons etc (politely of course, - you know me; I am not controversial) and they deleted my comment! I wish schools would realise it is feeding the beast. None of my local schools in Central Beds do it. Maybe it’s regional?

Just seen a HT posting multiple banners that simply say "OFSTED outstanding 2024!". It would have been nice in recent years if ppl had chosen to stop doing this of their own accord, but it's good news that the grades themselves will soon be stripped away.

@GZzyzyx @Nessnixi @clhubes My child has ARFID and I think you would benefit from exploring this before suggesting toddlers cannot have eating disorders (not all eating disorders are to do with body image). Hope this is helpful 🙂

@Nessnixi @clhubes Toddlers don’t starve themselves. Pediatricians say to show them where the food is, and let them eat it when hungry. Offer the food often. Toddler age is a little young for an eating disorder 🤔

Last year I had a hard yr 7 class. They were sweet but wild, it took me the entire year to get them to where I wanted them in terms of behaviour, attitude, quality of written work. I have them in year 8 now & I look forward to every lesson. Building relationships takes time.

@nedchester @RogersHistory The NEU funded the (independent) Beyond Ofsted inquiry which has set out recommendations to overhaul the system. It really needs teachers and parents to get behind it.

The day after the Ruth Perry inquest report, this article seems to show its going to be business as usual for so many: "In May 2013, Ofsted inspectors said the school required improvement. But 5 years later it was rated 'good' and governors are optimistic it will stay that way or increase" etc So disappointing to see this narrative promoting the status of OFSTED grades, esp this week. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

We are in the endgame now surely - so many absences, so many quitting, so many agencies making a killing, so few thinking 'I'll be a teacher'. When will the govt realise they need to bin OFSTED and radically increase PPA? When will we run out of teachers? Soon.

@FloraSCooper Now is absolutely the time - have you read the findings of the Beyond Ofsted inquiry? The recommendations are excellent. I’m petitioning government to pause routine inspections whilst they implement them.

Friend works for a large well-known MAT - school is pretty chaotic & behaviour not good. Ofsted were in recently and a whole crowd of additional staff from elsewhere in the MAT were imported for two days! Why are they getting away with this?
