Concluding remarks: 💡 Market power ➡️ unintended but life-and-death consequences beyond price and distributional effects. 💡 Competition authorities should consider unintended externalities of buyer power when exercising discretion in antitrust evaluations. 💡 The findings provide a new lens for understanding the shared experience of high mining death rates in developed and developing countries over different historical periods. Back-of-the-envelope calculations: 1⃣ 53% of ⬇️ in coal mining death rates📉 can be explained by ⬇️ in buyer power 2⃣ Opportunity cost of saving one miner's life is 7 million💴, while the national compensation for each worker who died was 200,000💴(3%) (8/9)
