i’m a recruiter so i do a TON of phone interviews and something i’ve noticed about gen z specifically is that a lot of them answer the phone and don’t say anything. like i can hear their breathing and the background noise, but they wait for you to say hello first.

The Caller ID will only have your company name if they've saved your number with that information ahead of time. In fact, your number may even be flagged as "Potential Spam" if they haven't added the contact.
I was shocked to discover this during my job search. There were HR people and recruiters that would cold call me (I know that's not what you're doing) and then not even leave a voicemail. I wasn't picking up because the calls were flagged as "Potential Spam". I didn't realize until one finally left a voicemail.
I had to almost chastise a couple of folks when I did talk to them because they had an attitude about it. Anything I applied to I put my preferred method of contact as email. It's not like I can just jump on the phone while I was working because they decide to ignore my information and cold call at random times. I wanted to schedule calls. Also didn't make sense not to leave a voicemail.
