For European fans their team is like a religion which might only parallel college sports in America. Most Americans have no idea the Ultras in Europe even exist and I think they wouldn’t be able to comprehend that level of dedication to a club team where it supersedes almost everything in your life. Especially when a team is consistently terrible, the fans would dry up in America.
Perhaps the Europeans have more of a history of regional wars and perhaps in America there are many other things to strive for

European fans treat the game like war. Aggressive, confrontational, tribal.
American fans treat it like a party. Loud, cheerful, friendly.
