@hstsbian @AdaotitoE again, i don’t support transphobes or exclusionists. but saying that every lesbian is that way, that they are hostile, mean, or undeserving of community is lesbophobic.

some of y’all have a “rules for thee not for me” mindset when it comes to how lesbians are allowed to behave in comparisons to other identities. no lesbian only spaces, can’t be les4les, can’t critique patriarchy/misogyny, but everyone else gets to do their own versions of such.

@hstsbian @AdaotitoE yes, i know the history and i understand the influences, but people are continuing to push this narrative: mean, exclusive, etc. and it causes people to degrade and discredit lesbian spaces as untrue or wrong.

@lesbedie @AdaotitoE & where it started matters. straight people and cisgender people establish the framework of stereotyping and discrimination that make this kind of infighting possible in the first place.

@hstsbian @AdaotitoE yes but that doesn’t exclude other queer people from perpetuating lesbophobia no matter where it started. i agree that trans women are owed respect and apology for what they suffered, and that they belong in lesbian spaces, but that isn’t the conversation at hand.

@lesbedie @AdaotitoE that era created so much infighting between lesbian and trans communities in the 90s, & it also caused tension within lesbian spaces themselves. many trans men were closely connected to or identified with the lesbian community at the time & sparked even more internal conflict.

@lesbedie @AdaotitoE so when you look at it that way, the “lesbians are mean” rhetoric was driven by straight people, while the only group that could really claim harm from that exclusion would be trans women who were directly pushed out of those spaces…. no shade tho but it was badddd
