@SophieHaigney what if this is the reason various more challenging foods (spicy, bitter, dry martinis, etc) have become popular? i don't believe this but it's fun to think about.

Yo, the palace in the Naatu Naatu sequence is the presidential palace in Ukraine and the background dancers are all Ukrainian and they filmed it just months before the war started????

Feel like the only way to perform "Naatu Naatu" in the spirit of the movie is to have it interrupt a lame performance of one of the other songs. (Lady Gaga might actually be down with this.)

@huffakingit @edzitron Most jobs pay a flat salary, or an hourly wage. It is not clear to me how the average employee can multiply the income from their job by incorporating LLMs. Maybe some can create apps but they were saying to use LLMs to make more money at their current jobs

this isn't even a coherent thought. Strong AI will lower your value so get good at AI, which is sold as this autonomous thing that does whatever you can dream of, but also you need to get good at it, or else you'll fall behind, possibly, in some way? Eh

@Pac_Doesnt @mattyglesias Phil Scott is the Republican governor of Vermont and the most popular governor in the country. Larry Hogan was also one of the most popular governors in the country (Republican in Maryland) before he got term-limited.

I think as an outsider I have a clear-eyed view on lent. You shouldn’t give up things that are bad for you, like smoking or social media. Mortification means renouncing things that are good for you: conversation, reading, exercise, toothbrushing, handwashing, wearing glasses…

@karenvaites it's not that it's resistant to tech it's that tech doesn't drive productivity improvements. which seems to be true of every technology post-printing press.

"Notoriously resistant..." Not totally sure I support the idea that education is resistant to tech, after watching ed tech move through classrooms like an out-of-control brush fire. K-12 educators broadly believed they were going to improve learning outcomes in the process, which is a form of efficiency (if those gains were realized, and they very much were not). If the point is that education is notoriously resistant to staffing contractions, well then, very much so.

I think it's finally time to overcome the spell that individualist Pindarism has cast over the Olympics. An athlete should compete anonymously, identified only by a number and his country's flag

i always thought of the area above 96th street (or 110th or 125th) as "Upper Manhattan" but apparently it's also called "Northern Manhattan" sometimes? What's going on here.
