China is surrounded by smaller countries, Korea, Japan, even the territory of Hong Kong, all of which have built multimedia empires with massive popularity both domestically and overseas. There is nothing comparable from mainland China and no amount of crying will change that.

@huge_sesh No, I get that, and I'll vote for Harris. The liberal regime is preferable to what comes after. But it's unsettling that liberalism sees itself as particularly threatened at this moment, while also lacking any coherent strategy for the future.

The Dem narrative focused on the danger of Trump's authoritarianism is unconvincing, not because "we survived his first term", but because it betrays a lack of faith in American institutions to endure when challenged by someone who is, after all, only one man.
