Abandoned, injured, and left among the trash, a senior dachshund, later named Génova, was found by one of our rescuers in Aguascalientes. She was quickly taken in, given emergency care, and underwent surgery to begin her recovery. Thanks to our compassionate rescue network and veterinary team, Génova is now safe, loved and on the path to healing.

VICTORY for animals in Maryland 🎉🐾 The Animal Research Modernization and Best Practices Act (SB 423) has officially passed—marking a major step forward for dogs, cats and all animals used in laboratories. This landmark law will: 🐾 Require companies to switch to non-animal testing methods as soon as they’re approved. 🐾 Increase transparency with annual reporting on animal use and alternatives. 🐾 Ensure labs report how many dogs and cats are adopted after experiments end. 🐾 Ban cruel practices like devocalization and inhumane killing methods. This monumental progress is thanks to years of hard work by our staff, advocates, supporters and partners. Urge Iceland to end whaling! Only three countries in the world still hunt whales commercially. Iceland is one of them. Whales are often harpooned multiple times with long spear-like weapons, leading to unimaginable cruelty and prolonged suffering—with some whales taking up to two hours to die. Humane World for Animals takes a stand against puppy mills on all possible levels, including supporting legislative changes, conducting investigations and litigation and promoting public awareness and education. We have supported national bills such as the Puppy Protection Act, which, if passed, would overhaul the conditions for dogs at federally-licensed facilities. We have also successfully pushed for nationwide regulatory reform and stronger enforcement of the federal Animal Welfare Act. We’re also working to stop the sale of puppies from mills, thereby shrinking, and ultimately eliminating, the marketplace that keeps puppy mills in business. We have helped pass laws that prohibit the sale of puppies in pet stores in five states and over 500 localities, and counting. Because most puppy mills are not illegal, we need help from the public to put an end to the consumer demand for their "product."
