Wasn’t expecting this tweet to blow up. But since y’all are listening, know this: Dr. Amos N. Wilson already laid out the blueprint for escaping Black political and economic subordination decades ago in his 800-page masterwork, Blueprint for Black Power (1998). The diagnosis AND the strategy already exist. drive.google.com/file/d/1Vm0pXe…

imo one of the greatest things D'Angelo inherited as a student of Sly Stone was this understanding of texture, especially on Black Messiah. even a record as punky as '1000 Deaths' utilizes Sly's signature woozy psychedelic fabric
dj short@_DJShort

lowkey Sly's greatest superpower was his understanding of musical texture. He understood it better than anyone in his time, and arguably ever. His music still sounds like visions of the future.

@JefferyDoomer Don't forget: Cars was the first to be rendered with ray tracing, and practically only exists because of the scene where all the neon bounces off the hard-surfaced characters

What I find interesting about the first 5 Pixar movies is each one was essentially a tech demo for computer graphics at the time. Toy Story was to show you could even make a computer animated movie A Bugs Life was to show you could have hundreds of individual models on screen Monsters Inc. Was to showcase fur and hair physics Finding Nemo was to showcase underwater effects and motion.

What’s wild about Toy Story being the first full length CGI movie is it could’ve been an outdated mess like a lot of firsts are but not only is it not a mess, it’s one of the greatest animated movies ever made.

Herbie Hancock showing Quincy Jones how to use the Fairlight CMI synthesizer - one of the first commercially available digital samplers Herbie was an early adopter, using the $80,000 machine to compose and arrange, "Rockit," his classic work of early hip-hop/electro/jazz fusion.
