Rest in power, Lewis Charles Malone.
One of the pioneering Black Marines (Montford Point Marines) who served in WWII and fought at Iwo Jima has passed at 103.
Born in Alabama in 1923, he helped break barriers in the U.S. Marine Corps during a time of segregation. His service and the legacy of the Montford Point Marines continue to inspire.

Happy 103rd Birthday to a true legend, — one of our very own Top Gun and a Documented Original Tuskegee Airman (DOTA). ✨
Col. Harvey made history as part of the team that won the Air Force’s very first “Top Gun” competition in 1949 — and did it with inferior aircraft. That victory sent shockwaves through military aviation. The trophy they earned was hidden away for nearly 50 years, but the impact of what they accomplished could never be erased.
As one of the first Black fighter jet pilots, his legacy goes far beyond that moment. It’s about breaking barriers, overcoming adversity, and proving excellence through unmatched skill, determination, and resilience in the face of discrimination.
What really stands out is his mindset:
“Being old doesn’t mean anything. It’s just a number. It’s your attitude… you have to keep a positive attitude about everything. And have a sense of humor. If you don’t, you’re dead in the water.”
Col. Harvey has continued to be an outspoken advocate, showing what it means to lead with strength, purpose, and perseverance.
There’s no way to capture everything he’s done in one post, but if you have a moment, take a look at his incredible story here: "James Harvey profile" (https://reference-url-citation.invalid/1)
Take a moment to wish him a Happy Birthday and show love to a true American hero. ❤️

We remember Lawrence Brooks 🌹
The oldest World War II veteran in the United States and believed to be the oldest man in the nation, passed away at the remarkable age of 112.
With his departure, the world lost not only a man, but a living witness to history, a member of the Greatest Generation whose courage, endurance, and quiet dignity carried him across more than a century of change.
His life stands as a testament to service, sacrifice, and unwavering strength. 🕊️

#OTD Jul 9, 1793: The Act Against Enslavement in Upper Canada bans the importation of enslaved persons and will free those who are born into enslavement after the passage of the Act at 25 years of age. The act was partly inspired by the case of Chloe Cooley, a Black woman who was violently bound and sold into enslavement in 1793, according to the Canadian Encyclopedia. It was also driven by the growing abolitionist sentiment within the British Empire.
