In 2007, a boomer executive at Sallie Mae signed off on a memo. The memo laid out a plan: give student loans to teenagers they KNEW couldn't pay them back. Their own math said these loans would default at rates up to 92%. They knew 9 out of 10 kids would drown in the debt. They did it anyway. Because the fake for-profit colleges paid Sallie Mae upfront no matter what happened to the student. The kid was just bait. For seven years, they trapped hundreds of thousands of young people in loans engineered to fail. The boomer executives who ran it? They got rich. CEO Jack Remondi was paid over **$47 million.** Shareholders got **$4.9 billion.** The kids got destroyed credit, garnished wages, and a future that ended before it started. It took until 2022 for 39 states to force them to cancel **$1.7 billion** in these predatory loans. By then an entire generation was already wrecked. Nobody went to prison. They knew the loans would fail. That WAS the plan. They built their fortunes on the wreckage of kids who just wanted an education. And they'd do it all again tomorrow.

Student loans killed Jason Yoder in 2007. Jason was a bright student. He earned a master's degree in organic chemistry from Illinois State University. He did everything they told him to do. Went to college. Went further. Specialized. Earned an advanced degree in a hard science. But the job never came. He couldn't find work in his field. His student loan debt sat there, growing, unpayable. The despair grew with it. One evening in 2007, his mother Jan noticed he seemed more despondent than usual. Jason took his own life in the chemistry lab at the university where he'd earned his degree. He was 35. He left a note that referenced his student loans and his inability to find work. Here's the part that should make you sick: **While his mother was planning his funeral, the debt collectors were still calling her about the money he owed.** She told one of them: "You are part of the reason he took his own life." Then she hung up. Jason isn't alone. Research found that **1 in 11 suicides among young professionals is at least partly tied to student loan debt.** Nine in ten borrowers report significant anxiety over their loans. He wasn't lazy. He wasn't irresponsible. He got a master's degree in chemistry. The system just handed him a lifetime of debt for a future that never arrived.

I'll take the guard who showed up when the lights were brightest. 👇 People still rank Jaylen Brown and Pascal Siakam ahead of Jamal Murray because they obsess over individual accolades. Jamal Murray proved he can be the No. 2 on a championship team while outplaying bigger names on the biggest stage. Rings don't erase talent debates but they absolutely change legacy debates.

One moment you’re in arguments, defending Bam Adebayo’s defense as one of the best in the NBA The all of a sudden you’re in arguments about him being one of the best two way players in the NBA I love Bam Adebayo and I’m glad he’s our life long Miami Heat

It's unlikely Fernando Mendoza will open the season as the Raiders starter. However, SI's Albert Breer believes that Mendoza will get worked in on first team reps during training camp. Klint Kubiak has been thrilled with what he's seen so far and Mendoza has reportedly shown the ability to absorb what he's learned and apply it to the field quickly.

🚨 First look at Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool and it’s got us excited 🔥 4-2 win over Sunderland in his opening game, but the scoreline was only part of the story. ✅ Instant credibility – the players already look bought into his ideas ✅ Aggressive, front-footed pressing is back ✅ Clear, repeatable attacking patterns (that fourth goal from a high turnover was pure Iraola) ✅ Academy kids stepping up – Trey Nyoni dominated midfield, McConnell, Koumas, Ngumoha all impressed ⚠️ Still a massive red flag at centre-back and right-back after Gomez’s early injury The intensity, the intent, the young talent… this already feels different. Are you buying the Iraola hype already, or is it still too early? 👀
