I had the good fortune of hosting a conversation with @DanishDhamani during the 3rd Episode of Startup Stories – an initiative by Ismaili Professionals Network (IPN), India last Sunday.
Danish is founder and CEO Orai: AI Speech Coach, a public speaking app designed to help people speak more clearly and confidently through AI-driven feedback. Danish is also a @TEDTalks Speaker, a speech coach, and was honored on @Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list for 2021.
I extend my gratitude to @sohelboghani for providing me with this opportunity.
It was a delightful conversation with Danish. Here are some of my key learnings from this session,
- Public Speaking is extremely important at every stage of life, whether it's profession, business or relationship.
- Entrepreneurship is not just the startups, not just the app creations, not just the business. Entrepreneurship is a mindset. The way you carry yourself in your life is also entrepreneurship. The way you take care of your loved ones is also an entrepreneurship.
- Statistics are always against us. 90% of the startup fails. Work on an idea you are extremely passionate about. Otherwise you're most likely to fail.
- Never leave any stones unturned. Grab every opportunity coming at you. You never know what you get to learn from each one of these opportunities.
- Our core responsibilities should be to have some contribution in improving lives of others.
- Revenue Generation and Social Impact goes hand in hand, both are equally important.
- Speed is more important than scalability when you're starting up. It's okay not to scale the team or resources initially.
- Role of mentors is important. But always listen to your heart and your customers more.
- AI is the future. It doesn't matter who you are, whether you are an employee, CEO, manager or an entrepreneur, if you will not learn it, you will be left behind.
- Nothing is better than bootstraping a startup. Raise funding once you exhaust your capacity of bootstrapping and when you're planning to scale.
- Pitching to investor should be your full time job as an entrepreneur. And the investor funnel should be created strategically.
- Negotiation is a skill. Embrace the power of vulnerability during negotiation.
- Networking is a powerful tool. Network when you are not sure what you're doing. Minimize networking once you have decided your purpose to focus on your thing.
- Being a CEO is a lonely job. Be ready to take all the stress.
- Meditate regularly, visit your spiritual place, meet the like minded people. This helps reliving stress.
- Take care of your mental health and physical health. Exercise and meditate regularly. Also, practice your faith regularly.
Stay tuned for the whole episode.
