58 years ago today I was only 10 years old when my father was taken from us. I remember hoping it wasn’t real, that I would wake up and he’d still be there. Even then, I understood his life was about something bigger than all of us. For generations, communities across the African diaspora have carried the weight of this injustice. Today, the world has taken an important step toward acknowledging that truth. We honor those who fought, those who suffered, and those who continue to demand justice. The vote is not the end of the journey. It is the beginning of a new chapter. The work continues.
