@m_saharia Great thought @m_saharia. I recently completed my PhD in India and now work as a postdoc in the US, so I have lived both lives. My lab hours were 10 to 7 with three half hour breaks in between. Personally, I was more productive due of those breaks. Guess, it depends on people!

Yesterday, I was giving an intro talk to our dept's new PhD students. Technical things aside, my number 1 suggestion has remained the same over the years: Treat your PhD like a job. - Avoid 1.5h lunch and three tea breaks. - Avoid gossiping and loitering at work. - Lab at 9 am and leave at 6 pm. Being productive till 11 pm in the lab is a lie people till themselves when their day starts at 1 PM. Everything worth doing can be done with high intensity focus during work hours. And having fun in life is the secret to being productive in a marathon.

@hydrodatalogist Only true for computational research. We lag by a lot in experimental research facilities.

Just now realized that our Supercomputing facility (supercomputing.iitd.ac.in) is featuring our lab's work front and center! When I started HydroSense Lab in 2020, I was worried we would have to rely on my American colleagues for computing facilities. The kind of large-scale models we develop can't run on workstations. But the IITD supercomputer has been fantastic, and I am happy to share that our datasets and systems are entirely developed on PADUM. More than the hardware, the small team that runs this facility is pro-active and the few times I have requested software assistance, they have gone out of their way to help us promptly (this is not the norm at all). It really is a force-multiplier for our campus.

@RajTheNewEra Absolutely. It's about the good and bad terrorism. When it affects the west, it's deplorable to them, allows them to launch military operations, while it's just our problem when it happens to us, and that we should show refrain. Pathetic!
