Chai, especially Irani, is the ubiquitous Hyderabadi beverage, accompanied by an Osmania biscuit. However, long before chai came to the city, it was coffee, or qahwa, that was the preferred beverage that accompanied discussions on culture, art, poetry and music. 1/4

HAUNTED HERITAGE IN #HYDERABAD A thread 🧵 Lately you see a lot of 'creators' claim so and so places in Hyderabad are supposedly 'haunted'. Most of these "haunted spots" are old heritage structures now in disrepair and disuse.

Join us as we observe the historical Deccani celebration of Mirag or Eid-e-Soori (Welcoming of the Rains). We hark back to Qutb Shahi times as we welcome the monsoon and eat some tasty fish! Few slots left - sign up now!
The Deccan Archive Foundation@DeccanArchive

Eid-e-Soori is what the Qutb Shah called the day of Mirag. The Telugus call it Mrigashira. It is a day of celebration as the monsoon enters the Deccan and marks the end of Summer and it is celebrated by having a feast- with the star attraction being a dried fish!

Some of the semiprecious stones have been gouged out and stolen over the years, but whatever remains gives us a good idea of the beauty of the tomb.

While exploring the Paigah tombs with @DeccanArchive , we had a chance to look closely at two different tombs that are adorned with colourful marble inlay work. This is the tomb of Kursheed Jah.
