𝐇𝐞 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢-𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐦 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞. 𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐚‘𝐰𝐚𝐡. Swayed by the far-right, full of hatred, Jon now admits most of what he knew about Islam came from online videos. The more hatred he engaged with, the more his feed fed him and no one bothered to engage him. “I used to share a lot of stuff about Muslims.” Looking back, he regrets it deeply. “I realised later I was feeding myself negative stuff” 🛑 Everything changed when he met a Muslim colleague. “He was very friendly. Very talkative. A lovely guy.” Confused by the person in front of him, a far-cry from the propaganda he was led to believe, Jon exclaimed: “He can’t be reading the same book those guys are reading!?” 🤔 Here began his search. During Jon’s commute, he listened to the Torah, the Old Testament, the New Testament, and then FINALLY the Final Message. “When I listened to the Qur’an I was thinking… I believe Muhammad is a messenger. I believe in the Qur’an!” This led to Jon embracing Islam. Today he often reflects on the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teachings: “Before Islam I never thought I would love all races the way I do. When I took my shahadah, that really sunk in… racism is gone.” An iERA New Muslim retreat gifted Jon the community he never had. “For reverts like me, we don’t have anyone. No Muslim family”. Growing up believing in witchcraft and magic, she felt lost. For years she searched for answers in spirits and a harmful lifestyle of partying, drinking, and drugs followed by guilt. Poppy’s life shifted when she was finally gifted a Qur’an on a street dawah stall. “I couldn’t put it down.” She remembers crying while reading it. “It was like this is what I’ve been looking for… this is the truth.” Poppy received support with an iERA New Muslim Retreat. Esmeralda discovered Islam unexpectedly after her Facebook account suddenly filled with new friends who began sending her Qur’an verses and reminders about Allah’s mercy. Curious, she began asking herself, “What is this Islam?” She had always believed God’s love depended on circumstances—good things meant God loved you, bad things meant He didn’t. But learning that Islam teaches Allah is full of mercy and forgiveness deeply resonated with her. Despite family challenges, she decided to embrace Islam. Not knowing how to say the shahadah, she began by wearing the hijab and practicing the words alone in her room for weeks. Later, when the Mexico iERA team visited her community with Qur’ans and da’wah materials, she finally met Muslims in person. “iERA was the first Muslims I got to see face to face,” she recalls.
