people wondering how most progressive state TN gave vijay the supreme power despite him being a newbie in politics are so naive. politics is a game of public perception not a math problem based on theorems. when indira gandhi declared emergency in 1975, leading to mass unrest across the country, turning herself an instant villain among the people, she immediately lost next general elections in 1977 to janta party (parent bjp). janta party came in as saviour. absolutely new. people had high hopes. here rational mind would say, indira won't return to power ever given the nation wide oppressions she caused, but just in the next general elections 1980, indira returned with a massive victory, throwing away janta party (which overlooked people's mandate and focussed more on avenging indira gandhi for that emergency) this is just perception working for/against a political party. no common man goes to polling booth with an excel sheet and 100 page analysis of bureaucracy or governance. they feel someone is right for them, they vote or wrong for them they vote out. absolutely that simple. vijay winning TN election is also no permanent revolution, it shows today people have expressed faith in him (specially because he is a "hero" for them for now) may vote him out tomorrow as well if the faith is not honored. it has nothing to do with the candidate's experience or profession. another one, manmohan singh is a renowned economist, definitely modiji is no match against him, yet modiji prevailed in 2014 if one thinks on that line. so rationality does not fuel politics, perception (strong narratives) does.
