In The Boys finale, Homelander had to look powerless according to Eric Kripke “Yeah, it was really important to us for Homelander to at least experience a little bit of time powerless.” “People have asked me, ‘Well, why don’t you send him out in the world powerless, wouldn’t that be the ultimate punishment?’ “I’m like, it would, until he gets his hands on some more Compound V, and then you’re back to where you started.” “So, he cannot walk out of that room alive, but we can spend time with him powerless to really reveal what everyone’s been saying all season, which is, ‘Take away those powers and you are nothing.’ “And he’s so cowardly and blubbering and pathetic, as are most strong men when you remove their power and they’re and they’re faced with their imminent death, they rarely handle it bravely.”

Let’s talk about how hard Homelander got nerfed in the finale. A standard crowbar somehow tanks the entire force of his dive bomb without instantly snapping, and then he loses a strength struggle to Butcher with it?? I thought this man was supposed to be the equivalent of Superman

@BeigeFrequency It’s wasn’t Homelander acting like Trump. He didn’t behave like Trump. It was ripping on Trump voters. They portrayed Homelander fans as mindless idiots. The boys was essentially calling half the country retarded…

@BeigeFrequency Homelander has grandiose NPD. Trump has grandiose NPD. The characteristics of both are going to bleed. That was always going to happen.

@thicc_stick_boi He's literally never had to worry about real fighting technique in his entire life. Butcher was a killer before ever having powers. This is exactly how I would expect it to go down for someone with a god complex who doesn't know how to really fight.

Homelander's speed inconsistency in the Season 5 finale was one of the most annoying talking points for me too. Early on we see him casually yeeting to space and back in seconds, speed-blitzing people, yet in the final fight he's getting held down and can't just fly out or end it quick? It felt like they nerfed him hard for the plot. Kinda took me out of the moment. The ending was still brutal, but damn the powerscaling was all over the place.

They should just drop two more episodes. Make the current finale a nightmare Homelander was having where he sees himself depowered and pathetic, wakes up furious, and immediately goes full scorched earth on The Boys. It'd save the entire franchise.

Frankly, I think this would have been an even worse cop-out. The big problem here is that the very idea of magically taking away his powers is silly. It was silly when they introduced it and it's still silly now. Not to get too deep into analyzing the realism of superheroes, but bear in mind The Boys sells itself on its realism! The whole point is "how superheroes would actually play out!" So it literally asks for you to criticize it on these grounds. Homelander was modified with V while he was an embryo. If his power comes purely from the V in his blood, how did they give him enough that it's still present? We've seen how much other people have to inject to get powers. There physically could not be that much inside him. The real obvious explanation is he is significantly physiologically different from a normal human, **as a result of the V,** not that he has magic juice in his veins giving him magic powers. That's a stupid concept even when applied to the other supes, but it makes even less sense in his case. The whole concept of the de-powering beam is there because Kripke is too lazy and stupid to actually figure out a way to beat Homelander. Mind you, this wouldn't be hard in a writing sense - just put together a big enough team of other supes to do the job - but Kripke killed off or depowered all the characters he would need for something like that for subversion, shock value, or dragging the plot out longer than it needed to be. So he's left with absolutely nothing. So not only does he need the magic beam, but Homelander's lasers suddenly do no damage when they could slice Kimiko in half before, and he suddenly forgets that he has super speed. I personally think that this is because Kripke is stupid and talentless, but it comes across as low-budget. What's funny is that Supernatural did the **exact** same thing to its final villain, but I'm pretty sure he'd already left the show at that point. So this isn't him repeating his old mistakes, it's actual plagiarism.
Master Cheeks@WiggerMaggot

Having Homelander actually survive but forced to spend the rest of his life locked up, alone and de-powered after being at the top of the food chain his entire life would’ve been a much more fitting and humiliating comeuppance than “and then Butcher kills him”

Homelander was never truly the villain of The Boys. He was abused, tortured from birth, hurt non stop psychologically manipulated his brain wired in a way to be obedient since birth. He was a victim to a corporation trying to make the ultimate money making weapon. He was product of evil people while its said in the show itself, he never really wanted to be the best, the strongest. It was forced on him If he got tortured his entire life to be the best, be the most loved? Do u really expect him not to act the way he did? The boys finale trying to focus on humiliating him was stupid. All that character development of talking about how homelander could have truly been a superman, if he was not abused his entire life Just so in the end no proper meaningful end happens to that part of his story The boys writers should never write a show ever again. They care more about making fun of people instead of writing an actual character I feel bas for Antony Starr. His insane performance deserved a proper writing❤️legendary acting, horrible writers ruining his masterpiece

The humiliation of the villain is a sign of sadism from the culture that savors it. Homelander is truly a villain but he was used to pain and suffering and was filled with rage. He would not have begged and pleaded for life. The show's portrayal is utterly inconsistent with how people like him behave. It's a sadistic fantasy that betrays the sadistic convictions of the writers. They sought to humiliate the villain, but Homelander isn't real and they are. Ironically, in the end, it is the showrunners themselves who end up being the show's true villains.

Everything you people accuse Democrats of doing, the Trump admin has done 100x worse. Taxes: Dems didn't raise them, Trump slapped us with massive consumer tariffs. Spending: Trump and the GOP exploded the national debt. Foreign Wars: Trump is heavily involved in the Middle East and in another endless war Guns: Dems haven't taken a thing. Trump banned bump stocks, and literally said he wants them banned at protests and anywhere outside. Freedom: Trump recently extended FISA warrantless spying while democrats voted against it, attacked free speech (flag burning bans and he wants hate speech laws), and handed dystopian AI surveillance contracts to Palantir. Vote democrat in the midterms.
