Do people generally understand that time feels like it speeds up as you age because each passing year becomes a smaller fraction of your life? To a 10 year old, one year is 10%, but to a 40 year old it’s only 2.5%

You’re not indecisive. You’re not “too nice.” You’re stuck in a trauma loop of people-pleasing and overthinking. It’s not your personality. It’s your nervous system replaying old survival scripts. Here’s the truth—(most therapists won't tell you) 🧵

The feeling when your patience is rewarded… there’s nothing like it. People chase discipline but abandon it when it threatens good feelings. If you stay the course, the satisfaction of restraint becomes intoxicating. That’s when you understand what discipline really is.

Chase something in your life. Better if it’s outside your comfort zone. Better still if it terrifies you. Even an impossible goal has value if it moves you forward. The goal isn’t the point. The becoming is.

I often forget that we aren’t finished products. Not by half, not by a quarter, in many cases. The best thing you can do is make yourself as prepared as possible for what may come. It’s heartbreaking when something you do want passes you by because you aren’t ready for it.

If you knew you’d lose the ability to walk tomorrow, what would you do today? You’d walk EVERYWHERE. If you knew you’d lose your sense of taste tomorrow, what would you do today? Savour every bite you could. So why aren’t you living life to its max when you’re already dying?

You know that bad habit you formed: you reach for the bag of chips when you go to sit down for the evening? That’s programmed over weeks/months/years. It’s so habitual it’s automatic for you. You can do good habits that easily too, you just have to form them through discipline.

@JamesClear An active hand “sees” opportunities because it’s looking for them. A passive hand isn’t even looking.

Lucky opportunities are like grains of sand. They drift right past a limp hand, but an active palm can gather whatever is within reach and shape it into a little castle. It is the act of engaging with the material that gives it shape. You have to seize the moment.

Treat it like any muscle. Sets and reps. Take your headphones out. Talk to everyone. Be inquisitive if you see something that interests you. You might just make someone’s day, and that’s a good feeling.

No one ever teaches us how to socialize. We learn by exposure… trial and error as kids, then again and again and again each time we enter a new social world. But what happens if you stop putting yourself out there? Like any muscle, your social skills atrophy.

Everything we do is vastly more complex than we realise. Don't believe me? Try to write instructions for an everyday task so that an alien with no conception of our world would understand. Maybe if you understood this, you'd give yourself more grace for not being perfect.

The day I chose the weird thing I wanted over the normal thing I was expected to do was the day I earned real freedom
