This is my dad sometime in the late 70s .I’m not even sure of the exact year.I’ve been working on a piece about the man I called my father, and as I turn the pages of his old album, I find myself pausing at almost every photograph. These two pictures stopped me the longest.I look at this man and realise I am looking at a whole future unfolding, struggles, laughter, sacrifices, and the long journey that would eventually lead to the 87 years we were blessed to share with him. The album is no longer just photographs. It’s conversations I never got to have.Stories I now wish I asked earlier.Moments where he was simply a young man carrying dreams,I’m writing about him… but really, I’m learning him all over again. He migrated to South Africa in 1965 and retired in 2008.( In the days ahead, I’ll share the story of his “millions” that simply vanished in the storm of hyperinflation.

Superb run from Isaac Mpofu to finish 10th in the men's marathon this morning at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, making him arguably Zimbabwe’s greatest-ever marathon runner. Was also 10th at World Champs in 2022, 15th in 2023 and took 19th at 2024 Olympics.

@VascoDaGappah My small contribution would be to say the ancestors is not equal to fossils, which is anything dead and buried! Particularly the ones that are called upon as opposed to being benign they may actually be benevolent in spirit as a default setting 😃🙏

Question for those who may know: How does African cosmology address the idea that "the ancestors" may not be benign? What if they were, while living, rapists, murderers and thieves. Why expect them to "protect" the living when they were pretty nasty to the living when alive?

Richard Tsimba: first black player to play for Zim Sables. Racked up 23 caps and played in two Rugby World Cups, scoring twice. He’s in the World Rugby Hall of Fame! That 2nd try vs Romania at the World Cup in 1987. Class! 👏🏽🇿🇼

Padenga’s recently completed 1.2MW solar plant for its crocodile farm, Kariba. They plan to expand to 2.5MW and become fully self-sufficient. Previously, they used 60,000 litres of diesel a month. Croc skins from here are exported to Hermès, which makes super luxury handbags

Padenga’s impressive crocodile farms: 3 croc farms on the shores of Lake Kariba. Last year, they exported over 50,000 croc skins. Made US$30m sales from crocs. Oh, and, they produced 383,287kg of croc meat. And they have people whose job it is to hunt croc eggs in the wild.
