I lurked on Twitter for years (decades actually). I had a bunch of different accounts, but I used Twitter as a news feed.
In late 2023 I started tweeting--mostly about work stuff. I'd see these horribly wrong takes about the film industry and couldn't help but comment. Then I started doing threads explaining different concepts, using personal and professional anecdotes to illustrate my point. That's when I started gaining followers.
Then something funny happened. Elon took over Twitter and made changes. Suddenly (with a Premium subscription) you could post long videos and essays in a tweet.
At the time I was doing a journaling exercise. Just writing stream of consciousness stuff. Truth be told it was more typing than writing. Most of it was personal.
But I thought, Why don't I just post it to the timeline?
So I did. And it blew up.
It's funny, because I've been writing (on and off) since I was a kid. I'd submit stuff, but never got published. I rarely even got a rejection letter.
But I discovered (to my shock and surprise) that people liked my writing. And I began to rapidly amass a following.
It happened so rapidly that it freaked me the fuck out and I deleted the account.
I thought about it for a week or so, and decided I'm just going to roll with it. And to keep writing and posting and follow this thing wherever it goes--with the caveat that I'll stop and walk away if it ceases to be fun.
I'm still here. Still doing the thing.

@LivingTricks_ I'd spend far too long thinking 'weird to see so many sharks in one place, someone must be chumming the water or perhaps some environmental anomaly is attracting them, I wonder wha....' then I'd get eaten by the lion.
