Overheard today (and now pondering): “it’s impossible to be objective, the best we can do is be subjective with integrity.”

Throughout the pandemic, I’ve had the opportunity to evaluate and facilitate several community of practice (CoP) spaces. This is such rewarding work! In my recent blog with Engage R+D, I share 5 helpful practices when partnering with CoPs. Check it out! engagerd.com/blog/communiti…

I wish I could end this thread on a more hopeful note but today is a dark day, not only for my family, but for a nation that has forgotten it’s very recent abusive past. My cousin said it best when she said, “Sure hurts to love you, Philippines. Sure hurts to love you.” 🇵🇭

Now another Marcos will be president and a whole history of trauma repeats itself, not only for my family, but for many families. My relatives and I met via zoom tonight to mourn, share our collective rage, and feel numb together.

During martial law in the Philippines, my grandmother provided aid to anti-Marcos activists when my uncle, her youngest, decided to drop out of college and join the underground movement against Marcos. She was caught and sentenced to death in political prison in 1979.

It’s a dark day. A Marcos will be president of the Philippines again for 6 years. A history of martial law and deep trauma is repeating itself. I ache for my family in the Philippines today. 🌸💕🇵🇭 💓🌸

Learn a new word: METANOIA. Used often in a spiritual sense but also refers to the journey of changing one’s mind, heart, self, and way of life; the act of becoming new. I wonder what moments of metanoia will be shared at #AEA2022, a call to (re)shape evaluation together.

Thinking about how I’ve changed over the last 2+ years. As I prepare to enter spaces in-person, particularly community spaces, I want my practice to reflect the inner equity/CRE work I’ve done, actively resisting the urge to slip back to ways that no longer serve me or community.

I wish someone told me sooner that my success as an evaluator would be heavily based on my ability to regularly evaluate myself and my practice. How might the field be different if we led with this in addition to the technical skills related to evaluative work?
